Re:Which Director interests you more?
NakedLunchRadioShow:
The choices are
Billy Wilder (in a 2 part special)
Alfred Hitchcock (in a 4 part special)
John Cassvetes
Jean Luc Godart (in a 2 part special)
Gus Van Sant ( in a 3 part special)
I''m not sure that this is still a valid question, but of the choices here I'd have to say Gus Van Sant.
I love Hitchcock, but I've heard enough people discuss him to last a lifetime, but if you have somthing interesting, go for it.
But, I'd go with Van Sant because he has developed almost a new cinematic language in his last several films. You definately know then when you stumble on them on HBO or IFC. The spare dialogue, that seems to mean nothing, but really means everything, the lack of a sounds track through large portions of the movies. THey aren't for everyone, but I think they areamazing in the way they just draw you into his character studies.
Even his more mainstream efforts are quirky but grounded in a realism that so many movies that try to force quirky characters just really miss.
