So what'd you guys think about A&E's 2-part mini-series Andromeda Strain?

never got around to watching it- as soon as it is available on Netflix however...

question: What movie features this group's tag line (not description), written in blood (I think) on the wall of a church.

You stumped me for a second, but the answer is 28 Days Later.

Welcome to our group, Ian!  I do hope you'll become an active contributor!

Wasn't it The Reaping?

I would love to watch Andromeda Strain. I didn't even know A&E was putting that out. I loved that book, I read it a really long time ago, back when Crichton was super cool after Jurassic Park:)

For those who haven't caught it yet, like myself and get comcast, it is now in ON DEMAND.  Just go into Television, then A&E and you will see it.  You can watch it any time and without most of the commercials when it first aired.  My wife has been in the hospital and wanted to see it, so I plan to tape it so we can watch it together.  It looks okay, but I'm sure it won't hold a candle to the original movie, which I love and own on dvd.

Re:Andromeda Strain

well done xavier- it is 28 days later... right before the protagonist finds out that zombies have taken over the London.

I haven't seen the original AS film, which is on my must see list. I hope to watch it before I see the A&E series.

I also do hope to be a long time and dependable contributor to this group... lol

I guess I'm one of the few that saw it in it's originial broadcast. I watched it based on the recommendation from TV Guide's Matt Roush, who's opinion I greatly respect regarding everything on the small screen. However, I don't really know why Roush recommended this one (I'm guessing it's because it is a semi-return to "TV movie of the week" miniseries of the 70's and 80's. I was never a big fan of the original - I fell asleep the first few times I tried to watch it (and I do NOT fall asleep during movies). I guess if you love these biological nightmare stories and all the dry medical debates that go with them then you will like this and Outbreak. I thought this version was overlong and miscast. Sitcom actors like Christa Miller and Eric McCormack really struggled to bring any kind of serious emotion to their line readings, and I tried to like Ricky Schroeder, but he didn't help his career with this role at all. All in all, I feel like I should have taken a pass on this and done something better with the hours.

I have to agree with you about the casting.  Benjamin Bratt was a good choice, I really liked him in the NBC Pentagon drama E-Ring, which was, to my dismay, cancelled after only a few episodes.  I like biological disaster movies, but after sitting through 3 hours (actually a bit less, since I watched it "On Demand") of the story, I was more confused about Andromeda and where it came from at the end of the second half than I was initially.

I was actually kind of angry, because it left so many open ends.

I saw the original as well.  I am not certain but I think it was in a college science class that looked at the actual science in sci-fi.  Or maybe I just rented it on my own.  All I can really remember about it is that Robert Wise did a few interesting things with multiple frames on the screen at the same time.  They were all different sizes and shapes and showing different things.  That kind of effect is always interesting to me.  I'm surprised it's not overused.

Re:Andromeda Strain

Yeah...I avoided it based on the review Adam and Matty gave the original on Filmspotting...Dry science dialogue and loads of hours spent in labs going "my god" doesn't really do it for me.
