Hehe, Alexanderplatz is a LOOOOOONG movie. Do you even consider it a movie or is it a mini-series? Has anyone actually watched all of it before. I guess it's supposed to be one of the greatest film creations of all tiem if you can get through it. I think Fassbinder may also have the record for one of the longest film titles too: Fontane - Effi Briest oder: Viele, die eine Ahnung haben von ihren Möglichkeiten und Bedürfnissen und dennoch das herrschende System in ihrem Kopf akzeptieren durch ihre Taten und es somit festigen und durchaus bestätigen (1974)

Hmm... a film or a mini-series. I suppose it's a hybrid. fassbinder shot it as one continuous project, but it was shown on German Tv as a mini-series. Has it ever been shown as a film at a festival? Obviously not in one sitting. I'm very excited to see it because although it is a project unto itself it bridges the gap between Fassbinder's melodrama period and his later German hollywood films.

Yeah I am quite curious to see it as well. I wonder how you can prossibly approach shooting a movie that long? Hopefully the special features will be pretty insightful on that front. I'm very curious.

Re: Berlin Alexanderplatz and Kurosawa coming in November!
There is a documentary included with the set that is a detailed account of the making of the film. It's amazing to think that Fassbinder used a new cinematographer, after the departure of Michael Balhaus (now scorsese's go to guy), whom he had never worked with before. He shot the film in one go and at a furious pace for Bavaria TV. At this point in his career he was often only doing a single take, and because of this everyone had to be on their game. It also meant that it only took him 154 days of shooting. Three weeks after shooting ended the film was ready in fine cut. By the time Juliane Lorenz was nearly done witht he sound mixing Fassbinder was already 2 weeks into shooting Lili Marleen. Remember Fassbinder made 73 filmsin addition to Berlinalexanderplatz, and several theater productions, in a span of only 23 years. Of course he did die after a coke binge when he ate too many sleeping pills in an attempt to mellow out.
