Sundance Documentaries
While I was going through the films that premiered at Sundance I noticed a number of documentaries that really caught my attention. Here are the lists:
Spectrum 2009: Documentary Spotlight
World Cinema Documentary Competition 2009
U.S. Documentary Competition 2009
I wanted to know what everyone's top 5 picks would be out of all of these. I know you haven't watched them yet, but I would encourage you to read the synopsis (If we don't have one check sundance's site), and to watch the trailer if there is one. The films you pick would be ones you want to see, and perhaps think could win awards of some kind.
Thanks,
Ryan

Here are my five picks (I guess I could have just this in Top 5, :p):
The Yes Men Fix the World (2008)
Wounded Knee (2008)
Kimjongilia (2009)
Dirt! The Movie (2009)
No Impact Man (2008)

Tyson
Never was into boxing and frankly any mention of the guy creeps me out, but it might be interesting to hear some of the wacky stuff he has to talk about.
Art & Copy
I'm thinking it's gonna be like Mad Men, but less sex.
The September Issue
Again, like The Devil Wears Prada, but less sex.
We Live In Public
Crazy rich people are always interesting to watch.
When You're Strange
Love The Doors and Tom DiCillo so I'm hoping this will be good.

Interesting choices. I also was fascinated by the Tyson doc. I was equally interested in When You're Strange and It Might Get Loud, but not enough to put them above my other selections.
There is something about the whole environmental doc that seems to get me. I guess I feel that it is somehow related to some kind of apocryphal literature I've read, or something.

Wow, it's hard to pick, but if I had to narrow it down to 5 I guess I would watch most of the things I am personally interested in, or that at least sound like they could be informative and funny at the same time.
Tyson
When Your Strange
Why We Laugh
KimJongilia
Art and Copy

I have never been much of a Doors fan, but I'll pretty much watch anything Dicillo makes.

What else has DiCillo done that you're really enjoyed?

Well Living in Oblivion is good, although not one of my favorites. Other than that I always think of him as the cinematographer on Stranger Than Paradise.

Art & Copy:
I saw this at Sundance and was actually very intrigued. It's been a while since I saw it, but I found it fascinating much in the way that "Helvetica" caught my attention. That said, I also found it more interesting since I have friends at some of the various companies profiled, such as Chiat Day, and could connect more.
I'm really wanting to see Afghan Star, though. From all of the people that I talked to while at the festival (and boy do those people in line love to talk) this doc was the one that the most people brought up in a positive way. Since I missed my chance at the festival I guess I'll have to wait for the June 26th release in NYC. Has anyone else seen it?
