Ask JIMBELL for Recommendations
In order for me to give you a good movie recommendation, we need two things:
1. Most importantly, I have to know something about you. That's the only way I can tailor a recommendation.
2. You have to know a little about what movies I"ve seen and what I look for in a movie. Otherwise, you don't know how much faith to put in the recommendation.
I particularly like Drama, Documentaries, Suspense/Thrillers including film noir and neo-noir, and, of course, the rare good Comedy. Although I've seen classic horror flicks and numerous children's films, I really don't know much about them and no longer watch those genres.
My approach to films is pretty serious compared to the playful approach many viewers have. I expect the film to have a story that hangs together. Also, with all the human energy and millions of dollars poured into the film, I usually expect it to say something.
As concrete examples of what I mean, here are the best films I've seen so far in 2008:
Mother of Mine (2005; Finland/Sweden)
Gone Baby Gone (2007)
51 Birch Street (2005; documentary)
The Italian (2005; Russia)
Starting Out in the Evening (2007)
Sharkwater (2006; documentary)
Charlie Wilson’s War (2007)
Longford (2006)
Get Smart (2008)
Elizabeth I (2005)
The Dark Knight (2008)
Black Book (The Netherlands; 2006/2007)
The Savages (2007)
For what it's worth,
JIMBELL
