Re: Why must there be the label "Chick Flick"?
I don't think that there is such a thing as a true "chick flick." In my household, the husband likes the truly sappy romantic movies and the wife doesn't. Example 1: We were watching "Little Children." (Not that it was sappy or romantic, but it's themes suggested it as a candidate chick flick - but the chick in the house ruled that no way was it.) Example 2: Lyrics and Music. Husband liked it, watched it twice. Wife dropped out early. Very early. Example 3: Mick LaSalle, reviewer for the S.F. Chronicle, has a podcast in which he has said more than once that in his household, he's the one with a soft spot for romantic comedies, and that he'd never watch an action flick if he didn't have to.
