Description:

I've been noticing a lot of Spout users talking about Chicago, so we must have a high ratio of natives.  Use this group to talk about what's going on in Chicago with movies, the movie community, and just in general.

improv / comedy

Ok, you've discovered my immediate ulterior motive for creating this site.  I'd like to plug an even that I'm a part of that's going on in Chicago right now.  If you are interested in improv or comedy check it out.

I am part of an improv comedy ensemble that has been together for two years.  This month we are doing a run at The Playground Theater at 10:00 PM for five Tuesdays beginning June 5 and ending July 3. Each night will include three parts: solo material from one member of Very Real Cops, a guess sketch or improv ensemble, and an improv set from Very Real Cops.

June 5
-solo cop: John Serve
-guest group: Team Submarine

June 12
-solo cop: Timmy Tamisiea
-guest group: The Cool Table

June 19
-solo cop: Brian “Rizzo” Risselada
-guest group: Chicago Sashay Company

June 26
-solo cop: Zach Landis
-guest group: War Heroes

July 3
-solo cop: Erin Pallesen
-guest group: Firecracker

Because July 4 is Independence Day and most people will probably have off work, July 3 will be a special night of celebration. We will have extra patriotic party activities, as well as standup comedy from all members of Very Real Cops, and an improv jam after the show is over. Stay up late with us and celebrate!

The Playground theater is located at 3209 Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60657 http://www.the-playground.com/

Admission is only $5! Cheap as hell!

TOP TEN COMEDIES MADE BY ACTORS FROM THE CHICAGO IMPROV SCENE

1. Caddyshack -- Bill Murray from Second City

2.  Ghostbusters -- Bill! and Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, also Second City .

3.  Austin Powers 3 -- Mike Myers, Second City; after the heard-it-a-thousand-times-novelty of #1 and the up-the-ante gross-out #2 came the treat that makes my mouth water for more Austin Powers!

4.  Talladega Nights -- Written and directed by Adam McKay, Second City.  Andy Richter from Annoyance.

5.  The Blues Brothers -- John Belushi, Aykroyd, John Candy from Second City.

6.  Tommy Boy -- Chris Farley, Second City.  Of course he made more movies, but didn't make more of these babies.

7.  The upcoming Simpsons movie -- Dan Castellaneta of Second City does the voice of Homer and half of the rest of the characters.  Can the Simpsons work as a feature film?

8.  Somebody please put Stephen Colbert in a good movie so I can list him -- Dr. Colbert, Second City and Annoyance.

9.  Made -- Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, iO Theater (Favreau also from Second City).  I liked this one a lot more than Swingers, but I was born in 1982, so that might say something about it.

10.  Little Miss Sunshine -- Steve Carell and Alan Arkin, Second City.

Re: improv / comedy

You know even though I'm involved in the Chicago improv scene, I'm not really a huge fan of most of the movies that get made with or by people from this scene.  There are some TV shows I think are pretty great like Upright Citizens Brigade from I.O. and Mr. Show had a lot of people from Second City and The Annoyance and people who had done comedy stuff in Chicago.

If you want to see something really fuckin wierd check out Fatty Drives The Bus made by the folks at The Annoyance.

Re: improv / comedy

Yeah that's what I did the first year I moved here.  It was good, especially in that I met a lot of people I'm still doing improv with from there.  But I don't hardly ever go there anymore.  I'd recommend checking out The Annoyance too.
