Re:Sub Vs. Dub

I feel that subs are better because in most shows they take out the most violent parts when they dub them and it screws up the entire series makin people think that its just a little kid show with no violence or any adult humor at all

Re:Re:Sub Vs. Dub

The only dubbing company that does that is 4Kids when putting shows on public television for a young audience. Any anime you buy on DVD or watch on Adult Swim will not have stuff edited out, and for the most part stays as accurate to the original script as possible.

The only things I can think of that have been edited like that are Sailor Moon, CardCaptors, DBZ, Naruto, Yu-gi-oh, Pokémon, One Piece(Which Funimation is re-dubbing without edits right now), and a couple other shows on Cartoon Network or related chanels.

Most shows on Adult Swim (like Fullmetal Alchemist, Inuyasha, Ghost in the Shell, Bleach, Death Note, Wolf's Rain, CowBoy Bebop), and anything you buy on a DVD (like Revolutionary Girl Utena, DearS, Mushi-shi, Gravitation, Love Hina, Suzumiya HaruhiD.N.Angel, Please Teacher, PretearDescendants of Darkness,Galaxy AngelMarmalade Boy, Paradise Kiss, and Kyo Kara Maoh), are not edited at all. Compared to the amount of shows unedited, the edited amount is very small.

Re:Re:Re:Sub Vs. Dub

Well adult swim has the only dubbed anime i'll watch anyway and i'm just too cheap to buy anything on DVD so if i really want it i just find a bittorrent file of it and download it.  Its really the best way if u dont wanna buy and if u need a torrent tracker try Azureus thats what im using and its pretty good for what i need it for just go to www.vuze.com and u can download it from there i think.

I know, I'm not saying you have to watch dubs, I was just saying your reasoning for not liking them was flawed since most of them aren't actually edited.

Yeah, some of them do screw up, but some of them I think are actually better than the original voices. It's all a matter of opinion though.

Re: Sub Vs. Dub - Sub vs. FanSub

Alright, I've got another question for you guys. Which do you prefer, licensed subs, or fan subs? And I want your opinion based on quality, not on the cost.

Personally, I prefer fan subs in most cases. Although they are likely to have my grammar, spelling, and typo errors, I also feel like the show is portrayed slightly more accurately.
I like how the fan subbers will leave in all cultural references, and usually put little notes at the top to help you understand them. I find that alot of times licensed subs leave cultural things out, especially things like honorifics or greetings. Or if they leave them in they often neglect to explain them.
There are many exceptions to this however, some licensed subs are done very well. For example, Marmalade Boy has a wonderful sub, and even comes with a page of cultural and translation notes in the dvd box.

Re:Re: Sub Vs. Dub - Sub vs. FanSub

Oh gosh, me too!  I love those little notes that just explain everything.. I think one of my favorite fansubs is Samurai Champloo.  In the beginning of each episode, if there's some cultural references, they always include it...

Actually... come to think of it... I think I've never actually seen licensed subs.......... 0.0  Or maybe I did..... I don't know... >.<  I watched ALL my anime on the internet... Never bought any~  Part of being the Cheap Asian.  :D

Also on the topic of subs vs. dubs (since I didnt comment on it before), I've personally never liked any dubs except for Howl's Moving Castle....  Most of the other ones I've heard just made me cringe.  Dunno.... they just seem like anime voice-over versions of soap operas.  They're somehow *too* expressive and too fake.  I don't doubt that the voice actors are passionate about their work, but compared to the Japanese seiyuus, they're just not quite up to par.

Meh... *shrug*  Just my two cents.. X3
