Kanon - Free Preview of First Episode
Has anyone here watched Kanon? It was recently released in America by ADV. Right now to promote it they released the first episode of the dub on ANN, and you can watch it for free. Go here to watch it: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/releases.php?id=10391 It looks pretty good so far, but I'm not sure if I should continue with the rest of the series. I've heard it's pretty moe. So, has anyone seen it? Would you recommend it?

What does "moe" mean? Is that some anime term I haven't heard before?

Re:Re:Kanon - Free Preview of First Episode
"Moe is a Japanese term used in connection with manga or anime to describe the ideal of youthful and innocent femininity. Written with the kanji for "to bud or sprout" (萌), the concept covers a narrow range of ideal behaviour for youthful female characters in manga or anime. To be properly moe, a character must be eager or perky, not overly independent, and call forth a desire in the viewer to protect them and nurture them.
There is a lot of debate over the crossover between moe fandom and lolicom. While the crossover exists among fans and products the two genres are not synonymous." - ANN

Hmmm, I love hearing about words in other languages that don't really have direct translations in English. But now of course you are going to also have to explain to me what lolicom is!

It's kind of like, having a fetish for young/innocent girls, which is a bit creepy in my opinion. Of course moe is not the same as lolicom, but it can sometimes have some of the same characteristics, as was kind of explained in the moe description.

Re:Kanon - Free Preview of First Episode
I enjoyed this series. I can't remember any of the character names at the moment, but I enjoyed all of the characters. It definitely has some mysterious elements to it, one main one that is carried throughout the whole series pretty much. I think it was based on some H-game from what I remember reading about it, but it wasn't really ecchi at all. I think if you liked Love Hina you'd probably enjoy this series, even though it can get pretty emotional. I really liked the music a lot as well.

Yeah the whole moe thing is probably true with this series, but I never felt like the series was promoting anything more than that, which is a definite plus.
