Which Almodovar film(s) have you seen?

And maybe which are your favorite?

I have every one but Tie me up, Tie me down and Luci, Pepe, Bon I believe.

I really think All About my Mother is his best film but I do think that Matador, Dark Habits and obviously Talk to Her are all really good too.

Kika is the toughest for me to watch.  He does something a lesser director wouldn't be able to do.  He makes rape watchable and funny, kind of.  I wouldn't have been able to make the work in any way.

I think I may very well have asked you this before, but for someone who has never seen one of his films but is interested, which one would you recommend to start with?  I'm afraid that if I start with the wrong one I might not get it and be turned off to see any more that I may have liked better.

I purchased Viva Pedro and Volver from Ebay for 45 bucks.

I think his best film to start with would be...  ummm...  All About my Mother.  It is hard to dislike that film.  I would really start at the beginning but I don't think Labrynith of Passion is available.  It's early and rough, but good.

Also after watching a film or two of his you may want to do some research on him and his life.

I've seen everything from Matador on, save for High Heels and Kika. Haven't been able to see anything prior to that '85 picture yet.

My favorite is Flower of My Secret, which is sort of unusual in that not many people ever seem to mention it. Something in its humor and drama, the pacing and structure, charactersm color and camerawork... basically everything about this one just clicks so perfectly for me like nothing else.

His later period films (mid-90s and up) are the ones I prefer compared to the more caustic, "black" work associated with the earlier half of his career, although I'm not above popping in, say, Law of Desire for Banderas in those white briefs! :)

"which one would you recommend to start with? " The first movie i have seen by almodovar and recommend to someone watching his or her first almodovar flick is Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!(1990);This  flick got me hooked on watching almodovar flicks; For a less graphic movie by almodovar but just as disturbed, i would recommend  another fave flick of mine by almodovar called Talk to Her (2002);It is a sad/twisted love story

Almodovar directed movies that i have seen are:Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!(1990), All About My Mother (1999),  Talk to Her (2002), Bad Education (2004), Volver (2006)

lesser known produced movies by almodovar i have seen are:The Devil's Backbone (2001), The Secret Life of Words (2006)(also stars sarah polley), and another fave flick of mine starring one of my fave actress sarah polley is My Life Without Me (2003)(would highly recommend this movie)

Would like to see and very curious  about flick by almodovar is Dark Habits (1983)

I have not seen any of his movies before 1988;Would any one like to recommend a flick i should definitely see by almodovar that was made before 1988 and why???

Under discussion:

Dark Habits  (1984)

Talk to Her  (2002)

I totally agree about My Life Without Me.  That is a great film.  I haven't seen her new film Secret Life of Words (which you mentioned) but it is on my Netflix list.

Hotrubi I agree about The Flower of my Secret is a great movie too.  I guess you could start just about anywhere, but for me, I was able to watch them in chronological order and see the development of the director.  I would recommend that but I am sure they all work.

I just think more people should be tuned into Almodovar and his great collection of work.
