Re: Most Anticipated Upcoming Korean Film
Evil Live - Yes, that is the same director who did Oldboy. Everything he does is fantastic. Evil Live is something about vampires. The Good, the Bad and the Weird - Unfortunately I don't know more about this film. I love this directors previous films "A Tale of Two Sister" and "A Bittersweet Life". In fact if you haven't seen "A Bittersweet Life" go find it now. It is one of my favorites. I have seen 3 Extremes. I liked it. Takashi Miike's is strange and a bit tones down from his usual work. Chan-wook Park's is great. Fruit Chan's is a bit unsettling. I've seen 3 Extremes 2 also but right now I can't remember how it was. My favorite Korean film ever is still Oldboy. A Bittersweet Life is a close 2nd. My favorite asian horror/suspense in the last 5 years is The Host. That movie was one of the best monsters flix I've seen in a long time.

Re: Most Anticipated Upcoming Korean Film
my fave korean everything(action, disturbed, awesome script,family,suspense,etc..) film is oldboy also. you are the second one that recommended 3 Extremes to me;the other member that recommended this is from the horror group.I put it number two on my Queu behind real fiction by kim-ki duk:have you seen real fiction??i just saw a movie by the same director called the bow;The bow was a very visual movie with a good soundtrack;I have never seen a movie quite like that; The pace was much slower than oldboy or any other korean movies i have seen but yet captivating;Everything was based on the main characters facial expressions, their body movements, their environment and the other fishermen since the main characters had no spoken dialogue(except those whispers which we never knew what was said). The boats, and the bow was also a big thing; Also that ending ceremonial wedding was something;there was a lot of symbolism there that the viewer has to figure for herself or the viewer has to figure their own conclusion ;AND that arrow being shot between the girls legs, intriguing???This the quitest, least disturbing kim-ki duk movie i have seen compared to bad guy and samaritan girl Whats your fave by kim-ki duk??Mine is bad guy I put the host on my queue;it comes out 7/24/07 ,i will be anticipating it as a great scary flick; with A Bittersweet Life ,it doesn't seem to be available both at netflix and blockbuster;i am going to look into it By the way where do you acquire asian movies that are not available in mainstream rental???roland from another asian group suggested an asian rental site with very much the same rules as the mainstream rentals. thanks for the info./update on Evil Live and The Good, the Bad and the Weird ;will be on the lookout for those flicks when they become available.Whats your second favorite by Park Chan-wook.???

Re: Most Anticipated Upcoming Korean Film
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Busy lately. I'll try to do better in the future. The only film I've seen so far by Kim-Ki Duk is Bad Guy. I thought it was very interesting but didn't really go where I was hoping. I'll have to rent Samaritan Girl to see how that is. I'm very excited to get The Host on 7/24 especially since they are releasing it on HDDVD. That is an amazing film. I'm not sure why A Bittersweet Life isn't out in America yet. It is such an amazing film. I got it through Ebay. That is where I get alot of films that are not available in America yet. My second favorite Park-chan Wook film is Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. The style, characters and story progression is amazing. Have you seen R-Point? It is a pretty good ghost story. I expected it to be better but it was still pretty good.

Re: Most Anticipated Upcoming Korean Film
i saw real fiction by Kim-Ki Duk and i was not impressed compared to his other works;I guess its because the camerawork onthe movie seemed low budget;Anyway i just did not get the same feel for this movie compared to bad guy, samaritan girl(disturbingly great), the bow(visually great with minimal dialogand lots of symbolism), and 3-iron(quietly original and concientious trespasser that finds romance in a most unusual way) Just saw The Host this evening and i thought it was JUST decently ok.There was some funny parts on the movie that i did not expect; It is interesting though how the family of the girl that was taken by the monster pretty much bonds together to rescue the girl:The family bonds together even with the odds against them;Odds against the govt. that does not believe them or lies to them ,and people that decieve them for reward money; The bravest of the family is the father that would do the craziest, and sometimes the dumbest thing against all odds to rescue his daughter. It is also pretty ironic that the govt.could not kill the mutant monster or did not really try hard enough or was very disorganized in their effort to kill the mutant.I do not think that the orange gas killed the mutant, probably just sedated it or harmed it a bit;It is the familys(with an unexpected help from a vagrant) old fashioned techniques(gas, arrow and fire) that have killed the mutant monster I saw parts of R-Point on tv ;I have to see it again completely to have a better perspective on the movie Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is on my rental queue, i will let you know what i think after i have seen it ;Another Park-chan Wook film /short i have seen is "cut" from the three extremes. In the closing or conclusion part of the cut,was the piano woman her mistress or wife.Who was the woman calling to the director (at the end)wife or mistress? Was the woman calling to the director (at the end ) real or just the directors imagination? The last short film from the three extremes flick is "Box ".Whats your interpretation of "box" I will be on the lookout(keep looking) for A bittersweet life,BY luck i might find it showing on tv(ifc, sundance, etc.) Have you ever seen a movie called H (2002) directed by Jong-hyuk Lee? I am curious about this flick;Let me know your insight about this flick if you have seen it;THanks

Re: Most Anticipated Upcoming Korean Film
I thought "cut" was pretty great. I loved the visuals and the tension. I'm not sure about the ending. I'm not the greatest at "getting" that sort of thing. "Box" was pretty tame for Takashi Miike. It was still good just not what I expected. You should see "Imprint". It's Miike's Masters of Horror episode that didn't get aired because it was too graphic. It is really good. I saw H a while ago. I was pretty tired when watching it and drifted off a couple of times but I didn't really care for what I saw. It just didn't grab me. That's too bad you didn't care for The Host. I loved it. Have you seen that directors other film Memories of Murder? It's amazing too.

"You should see "Imprint". It's Miike's Masters of Horror episode that didn't get aired because it was too graphic. It is really good."Yeah , i just saw imprint a couple nights ago.It was recommended to me ,also by another masters of horror /t.miike fan.It was the most disturbing masters of horror i have seen.I gave this flisk 3 1/2 stars out of 5.Liked that disturbingly torture scene with kokuma..The story, for me was ok and the acting esp. by the drago guy was so-so.,the baby fetus looked liked tiny bloody dolls with the umbilical cord hanging on it.Now i am on the lookout for other t.miike films:Bird People in China (1998), Visitor Q(2001) and Great Yokai War (2005);i put it on my queue;Could you recommend another t.miike you have seen and liked Saw memories of a murder too and it was just so-so for me;it was a bit slow but i did like the story

Re: Most Anticipated Upcoming Korean Film
Miike is amazing. I recommend all his movies. Visitor Q is very strange and a bit disturbing in parts (You won't have any question on which parts when you see it). My favorite Miike film is Audition. It's almost a perfect film. Ichi the Killer is amazing too. The Great Yokai War had good visuals but was a pretty strange fantasy. The Bird People of China was a big change of pace for Miike. Nothing like the rest of his films. Another favorite of mine is Deadly Outlaw Rekka. It's one of the best Yakuza films I've seen. The ending is outstanding.
