Recasting THE BREAKFAST CLUB (1985)
Is there any potential for another Brat Pack, or could such a group only exist in the 80s? Maybe recasting The Breakfast Club will give us our answer.

Okay, my choice for Andy is pushing 30, which is old even by John Hughes standards (I calculate that one human year is approximately equivalent to 1.35 Hughes years), but I can’t imagine anyone but Ben McKenzie in that role. Also, I’ve avoided, and would challenge everyone else to avoid, inclusion of any “Juno” cast members (even though J.K. Simmons would make a great Principal Vernon). It’s sort of like The Strokes covering Velvet Underground’s “There She Goes Again”. Finally, I always felt that the prettification of Ally Sheedy was one of the original film’s serious missteps. Hopefully my choice of Allisons renders that somewhat implausible.

Mark Webber - John Bender (The Criminal)
Blake Lively - Claire Standish (The Princess)
Nora Zehetner - Allison Reynolds (The Basket Case)
Paul Giamatti - Richard Vernon (The Principal)
Scott Bakula - Carl (The Janitor)
Brady Corbet (Funny Games) fits perfectly in the All-American Jock stereotype. Jay Baruchel (Almost Famous) plays the geek better than most. Mark Webber (Stroytelling) is a genuinely disaffected youth. Blake Lively (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) looks like a prom queen. Nora Zehetner (Brick) could definitely pull off the fragile, awkward loner. Paul Giamatti (Sideways) will bring a touch of class to the production as the irksome school principal. Scott Bakula (American Beauty) has that wisdom-spouting man with a mop quality that would be perfect for the janitor.

Of The Breakfast Club!
In which Bryan Singer decides to give in to his urge to reunite with his most successful ensemble. In a nearly fruitless search for the perfect script he stumbles upon a rewrite of the Breakfast Club. In this revision story elements are basically the same, however, the setting is changed from 9 hours in a detention hall to overnight in a Detainment center.
