A Confederacy of Dunces

In my experiences, most people are adamant about their favorite novel not being adapted into a feature film. I however can't wait. I read A Confederacy of Dunces a couple years ago and it immediately became my favorite novel (re-reading it immediately after I had finished it). The thought didn't occur to me about an adaptation until rumors circulated that Will Ferrell was to play the lead character Ignatious J. Reilly and David Gordon Green was to direct. For whatever reasons, I've felt that A Confederacy of Dunces is an extremely filmable book and the idea of Will Ferrell playing the lead didn't scare me. However, after some research, I discovered that the book has been through adaptation hell with numerous actors (Jim Belushi, John Candy, & Chris Farley) and directors (Stephen Fry & Steven Soderbergh) trying and failing to adapt it. Am I the only one that thinks it's filmable?

Yeah, definitely! John seems to have that cracked aspect of his personality that would be perfect for Ignatius.
