why matrix 2 and 3 are in the suck list
o.k. here is where i justify the suckiness of the sequels.
flashback to matrix 1. Neo has obtained a godlike status at the end of the film. he is able to shake up and manipulate the matrix like a friggin 'etch a sketch.' nothing can stop neo. not even himself.
fast forward to the sequels. neo is back to sissy mode. what gives? did he bump his head and forget how to toss around the matrix? and the messianic ending of the third movie was enough to make me barf. i was screaming at the screen "please god, let a robot kill this poor *** and end my misery!" o.k. maybe not screaming. but severely disappointed.
the only redeeming value was the kick-ass mech battle. that was it.
the sappy ass love scenes were inappropriate to the entire series but yet, there they were, the cliche' "keanu loves you baby but he's such a tortured soul." And if i have to watch yet another Keanu movie where he spends a majority of his screen time walking around with this "help me mister i've lost my mom" look, I swear to almighty God, I will rip my toenails off with a rusty fishing knife. Because that would undoubtedly garner more pleasure than yet another Matrix sequel. they suck. get over it.

Re: why matrix 2 and 3 are in the suck list
just watched the first matrix movie again tonite while working on the book. and I'm really trying to understand why a set of sequels was needed in the first place. it's not like the first movie leaves you hanging on the edge thinking that there's going to be more. The first matrix film has good closure. When the movie ends, I didn't feel like i really need more. But just like diarrhea, you think you're done and then more crap comes spitting out. Hated the sequels.

Re: why matrix 2 and 3 are in the suck list
ok, i might get flamed... but here goes: i like the second movie. here are my reasons: 1. the first Matrix was a rather original action movie that also made you think, turning your sense of the nature of the world on its ear is a nice little trick. i think that the second one did the same thing, to a certain degree. there was no way they could repeat the mindf**k one gets from being told "the world is a computer program and you are a battery." but they did ok with what they had. i thought the introduction of the Architect and the notion that the Oracle was not infallible were nice. notice i said nice, NOT amazing. 2. the action sequences. very fun. it is an action movie after all, not a philosophy class, so if you can get the car chases to look cool, you've come a long way. 3. i was living in France at the time this came out, and i saw it on opening day with probably every other American student in the city. there was something vindicating about the "French" villian who was actually a computer virus. (don't get me wrong, i love France) so what about the 3rd one? didn't like it. the possibility of messing with the veiwers' sense of reality by that point was TOTALLY gone, and it felt like an exercise in filling in the gaps, like it wrote itself. which is really bad for a sci-fi movie, i think. the new Star Wars trilogy suffered a similar fate, we know he's becoming Darth Vader, so it starts to seem like the things that happen are required, rather than spontaneous or motivated my other events.

Re: why matrix 2 and 3 are in the suck list
One other thing about Matrix 2: I just wanted a sequel. It didn't have to be good as long as it was reasonable. I just wanted to sit there and take in another one. Plus they filmed that freeway sequence locally. That's the way I felt about The Blues Brothers, too. I knew Blues Brothers 2000 wasn't going to be as good as the original, but I didn't care. It was good enough.
