Greatest T.V. Show Endings!

This discussion can be about our favorite Season Finales from our favorite t.v. shows or our favorite Series
Finales. I would like to start this discussion about the Series Finale of "The Sopranos". Once again, if you haven't seen the final episode of "The Sopranos" then stop reading right now. Well, I've read what a lot of people thought about the ending and the majority of them hated the way they ended it. I thought it was the perfect ending. I would like to further my opinion by asking whoever saw the ending what they thought about it? Tell me why you feel that way. After the discussion of the final episode of "The Sopranos", then we can talk about other shows. Let's start the discussion!

Re: Greatest T.V. Show Endings!

I haven't seen a single episode of The Sopranos, so I can't really comment on that.

But I can say that two of my favorite TV show of all time also have my favorite endings.  The Young Ones is the most amazing British irreverent sitcoms turned on it's head and totally fucked with.  One of the main characters, Rick, is an inept, loud buffon, who sees himself as a brillain and radical political activist.  He is also strangely enough obsessed with Cliff Richard.  If you don't know who that is, he was described to me as the Elvis of Britain and apparently like Elvis has nothing to do with political awareness and more to do with trite teen musicals with names like Summer Holiday.  The title of the show is actually the title of another Cliff Richard song and movie.  The premise of the show is that four college students, Rick, a violent punk rocker named Vyvyian (it's a man not a woman), a dilusional ladies man named Mike, and suicidal hippy named Neil, all live together in a flat.  There are never any scenes actually at college.  And actually you are more likely to see a game show from the middle ages or someone being squashed by a gigantic sandwich.  Anyways, in the last episode after they have all basically flunked their exams they finally get away to start a new life by hijacking one of those big red london tourists busses.  While they are all singing a Cliff Richard song, the bus crashes through a Cliff Richard billboard on the side of the road.  Rick yells, "look out, Cliff!"  And sure enough behind the Cliff billboard is an actual cliff.  The bus falls to the bottom of the revine and crashes.  Then you hear everyone said "whew, that was close".  And then the bus bursts into flames.  Actually this isn't too odd since most episodes end with everyone dying.

I guess my favorite TV show endings are when everyone dies.  I like that kind of closure.  I love the very end of the last episode of The Kids in the Hall, which isn't a narrative show by any means.  But during the credits of the last episode all of the guys are laying in a grave while dirt is piled on them.  Then Bellini, a character who always wears only a towel and never says a single word comes and dances on the grave with his theme music playing.  Then he throws a rose down and utters the famous last words, "Thank God, that's finally over"
