Best Zombie Make-Up Effects

There are some movies out there with WICKED make-up effects.  For instance, pretty much anything having to do with Tom Savini.  But what are some of the best make-up effects (specifically for zombies) you have seen?  I have to say, I praise those who at least TRY to make someone look like a zombie.  It must be very frustrating trying to get someone to look like their limbs are falling off without the person's limbs ACTUALLY falling off.  Wow...  that's so morbid...

Anyway, one of my favorite zombies is the "Tar Man" in Return of the Living Dead.  He is all sorts of gross and drippy, but he kind of reminds me of a little kid in that he gets all intrigued by the screaming people around him, then grumbles, "Brains?" as a question, like a child would question its pronunciation of a word or something of the sort.  I remember watching a little Featurette where the filmmakers talk about the "Tar Man".  They say something to the effect of, "Yeah.  We pretty much spent most of our time on him.  Then half-assed everything else."  Then they mentioned how the shoot got a bit tense and, by the end of production, they weren't as excited about the movie as when they started out.  I found it quite humorous.  On another note, the story art was just beautiful.  Check it out some time.  You will not be disappointed.

Re: Best Zombie Make-Up Effects

I LOVED the Tar Man in Return of the Living Dead.  You described him really great, he started off kind of like a cute little child but then started getting the hang of things...  I also loved the Torso woman...Now that I think of it, there were a lot of great makeup effects in it.  Very cool.

It's been a long time since I've seen Cemetary man BUT I think the effects were pretty good in that movie.  I think I really liked the girl's head that the Igor kind of guy kept in the TV SET and fell in love with.  I will have to watch that movie again but I remembered that I really liked it.

I can't think very clear tonight but I think they did a great job in Night of the Comet, I know I will think of even more movies that  I thought the makeup was really good...
