Zombie Limbs
First off, I'd like to welcome myself back from hiatus...Welcome back, me! Secondly, I'd like to give mad props to all of you who have kept our little group going...I know we were ALL on hiatus for a bit, but I've discovered some new discussions that look promising to reply to. Good going! Now, on with MY discussion! I recently purchased a few movies from ye olde Wal-Mart and one of them was The Hand with...uh...Michael Caine, I believe. I remember watching this little gem when I was wee and never EVER again sticking my arms out of the car window. And I do mean never EVER. The premise of the movie, as I recall from the little I remember (and the back of the movie case) is that this guy (Caine) is an artist or a writer or bull fighter or something involving much mechanical precision. BUt he's drivin' one day with his arm out the car window and WHACK! a semi comes on by and hacks his hand right off. Then, the hand (for reasons still unknownst to me) comes BACK and starts terrorizing him. Hate it when that happens. But I recall some other movies with "phantom limbs," like Evil Dead 2 (duh). And Return of the Living Dead Part II, with the lady's head that says, "Get this goddamn screwdriver outta my head!"...is a head a limb? I don't know. It seems reasonable to me. Anyway, what other movies have Zombie Limbs? I'm pretty sure Dead Alive had some in the midst of its hacking and slicing. But that's the only other movie I can remember them in.

Re:Zombie Limbs
Damn it...that was NOT the right The Hand. This is now the right one. Sorry 'bout that.

Re:Zombie Limbs
Idle Hands, of course. It may have been more than a little inspired by Evil Dead 2, but it had more than it's share of funny moments. Mostly courtesy of Seth Green, but still...

Re:Zombie Limbs
Welcome back, My Love! I missed you terribly! In Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark the warlock's severed hand continues to scurry about on the floor with a life of it's own... In fact, this is how Elvira gets her infamous ring back. Also, in Phantasm , the 'boy' has one of the 'tall-mans' severed fingers in a box and it is still wriggling around and oozing green slime. Also, I can't believe you forgot about the Re-Animator series! Also, your own personal FAVORITE Horror Movie might be eligable for mention here... John Carpenter's The Thing ... I will think of some more and be back later... < GOR >

Re:Zombie Limbs
Hey Froggy, I hope you are doing okay! Sorry I have been a little MIA too, life got really busy, now things are slowing down just a bit. I remember The Hand, what a fun movie also Idle Hands is fun too. Isn't there also an older movie about The Hand with Vincent Price in it? Oh or is it an old Tales from the Dark Side episode...Anyway, I can't think of any limbs coming back to life (the first Pirates of the Carribean had an arm crawling after the Governor and he put it in a drawer)...

Why, yes, Ms. June, I AM doing okay! I hope you are the same! With that said, ARGH! I forgot Idle Hands, one of the movies that made me want to start this discussion! Thanks for pointing that one out, TWD. The Thing, Doc, is not a zombie movie. And, therefore, the whole head-ripping-off-and-sprouting-legs scene could not be classified as a zombie limb scene. The Thing of the title is an alien and the head is just trying to save itself because, as KurtRussellisGod demonstrates later, it is only part of the whole and will try to survive on its own, if possible, or, say, crawl away from a hot needle...oo! That's a good quote! Anyway, I think you are wrong-o, Dr. Dear, but that's ok. I still love you.

Re:Re:Re:Zombie Limbs
And I love you, my dear Froggy. You are, of course, correct about 'The Thing' ... I merely said that this one MIGHT qualify for this discussion. But, come on, you have to admit that there are re-animated limbs galore throughout the 'Re-animator' series! Also, I would be remiss in my duties if I didn't mention the ganddaddy of ALL the 'zombie limb' movies, 'The Beast with Five Fingers' starring Peter Lorre as the 'secretary' of a reclusive concert pianist who, when he dies, neglects to mention his faithful servant in his will. For reasons I can't remember, Mr. Lorre severes one of the hands of the deceased which then comes to life and spends the rest of the movie chasing the wonderfully comical Mr. Lorre around a dark and abandoned mansion... This was actually a very good and, at times, even SCARY movie that I really need to watch again! Also, you mentioned ROTLD part II but not part I ! Remember when our hapless heroes cut up the 'meat-locker' zombie? They had trash-bags full of 'zombie limbs'! ("rabid weasels"!) I have something to say about the whole 'aliens-causing-zombies' thing as well (Plan 9?), but that will have to wait for another day... It is good to have you back, my love! < GOR >
