World War Z (2)

I tried posting this a minute ago but it was all currupted gobbledy-gook, so I'm trying again. Anyone read World War Z? I mentioned it in The Casting Futon and wanted some opinions about casting the movie (which is in pre-production as we speak). In the audiobook each character was read by a different actor. And not no-name yutzes, we're talking Henry Rollins, Mark Hamill, Jurgen Prochnow just to name a few. It was very well done. Usually I read books the old fashioned way but this idea struck me and so I "read" it the lazy way and am glad I did. As far as the soon-to-be film goes I'd like to see them stick with the audiobook cast (for the most part at least). Anyone have any ideas? [addendum: i apologize for the crappy layout, but i only seem to be able post in a single paragraph form despite spacing everything properly]

I read the Zombie Survival Guide and thought it was fun. I listened to the audio book of World War Z and the pretense was wearing a little thin, but I thought it was well researched. I'm with you on the audio book, I didn't look at the book itself, but it was an enjoyable immersive experience.

I saw David Sedaris do a reading in Kansas City a couple of months ago, and he recommended "the Zombie Survival Guide," even read one or two bits from it, like the part that states "Zombies appear to be incapable of running." I take it Mr. Sedaris and Max Brooks are not huge fans of the re-make of "Dawn of the Dead."

Anyway, Rollins would be a great choice, seeing as he was part of the audiobook cast. Mark Hamill would be fun, too, since this seems like it would be his kind of thing.

Well, Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment purchased the rights to the book so I would assume that he has first choice for the lead role. I have not read the book yet but he is an extremely versatile actor and I think he could do a great job. I've read The Zombie Survival Guide. That's a great book. Alot of fun.

i just couldnt dig World War Z.   i really tried, but I read a few chapters and actually took the book back. If you ask me, We should really see a movie version of The Rising by Brian Keene before we ever see WWZ.  (They are making a movie for it due out in 2009.)

If you were to make a film from World War Z it would have to be in the Babel format. I don't see how it could be condensed into a single narrative. Not even if the main characters were at such a powerful level that they could have knowledge about what was happening all over the world. Brook's greatest talent is distilling the horror into a very personal experience of the common man.

I've always thought an HBO series would be a better fit for his works.
