Top 10
What are the crown jewels in your DVD collection? If your house is burning down, what 10 DVDs do rescue from immanent destruction?

Re: Top 10
Well it would probably be the same list as my top ten movies, if I had all of my top ten movies on DVD. Netflix usually provides me with enough movies that I don't have to actually buy too many.

Re: Top 10
I've been so frustrated with the home entertainment industry lately that I don't know if I'm as passionate about my dvd collection as I was even a year ago. I would like to feel some sense of permanence in my choice of video format, but with special edition, ultimate editions, and super-duper secret extreme masterpiece editions being rereleased all the time I feel my collection is constantly being made obsolete. Also the impending war over blue-ray and HD makes me think I can just wait on buying anything until the dust settles. That being said - these are the 10 dvds I'm most proud of: Number 1 : Band of Brothers - the best world war II film and a great dvd release Number 2 : The Office - The Complete Collection BBC edition - I could watch this all the time Number 3 : The Wizard of Oz - three disc set - wow, this is packed Criterion Collection dvds give some satisfaction that at least the dvd can't get better special features wise: M, The Wages of Fear (rerelease), Rashomon, Brazil box set, The Red Shoes (rerelease), Rebecca , and Beauty and the Beast

Re: Top 10
Easily, my Alien Quadrilogy! Two disks per movie, two editions per movie, bonus disk of extras, beautiful packaging. These are some of my favorites films, but Fox went over-the-top when putting this collection together and as far as I am concerned set a benchmark no other collection has even come close to achieving before or since. The work put into Alien 3 alone rivals anything Criterion has done. My Criterion edition of Videodrome would be worth a burn or two as well. From all i have heard the upcoming Blade Runner special edition is going to be a necessity, especially if the include all three versions (Original Theatrical, Extended Cut and Director's Cut).

The one's that pop into my mind immediately (which is what would happen if my house was burning down... popping up of immediate thoughts and random lists) are: - Seven Samurai Criterion - OldBoy Special Edition - Shawshank Redemption Special Edition - Eternal Sunshine - Lost in Translation - La Dolce Vita that's off the top of my head.

In no particular order: - Almost Famous (Bootleg cut)
- American Beauty
- Serenity
- Firefly series
- The Incredibles
- Cars
- All LOTR extended editions (3)
- Signs
I suppose I could live without the Firefly series, but I just got it!

Re: Top 10
can't we do the desert island thing instead? the thought of the rest of my DVDs burning up is too depressing to contemplate... the following list is mostly favorites but are also chosen because they can be watched an infinite number of times. maybe it's cheating to include box sets, but in no particular order: - The Incredible Adventures Of Wallace And Gromit
- The Big Lebowski special edition in a box (includes a bowling towel, which might come in handy)
- Larry Sanders show: Season 1
- Six Feet Under set
- Lonesome Dove miniseries
- Neil Young: Live At Red Rocks
- Seinfeld box set (Season 1 through 3)
- Red/White/Blue Kieslowski box set
- Volume 4 Film Noir box set (i chose this because there's 10 movies and i haven't watched any of them yet)!
- The Philadelphia Story

Re: Top 10
I second wonga's reservations, I don't want to imagine flames, but I'll play. 1.) The original Star Wars trilogy (the prequels can burn, I don't mind that ~ and this would be the box of the ORIGINAL ORIGINALS not the special edition with blasphemous Hayden in at the end of Return of the Jedi, seriously). 2.) The box of special edition LOTR 3.) Bridget Jones' Diary (the sequel can burn) 4.) Monty Python and the Holy Grail (can't I just grab Life of Brian too?) 5.) The Philadelphia Story 6.) the Indiana Jones trilogy box 7.) the Muppet Show seasons 1 & 2 (3-5 aren't out yet) 8.) as many of the Pixars as I could carry 9.) as many of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as I could carry 10.) as many of the X-Files as I could carry So, I cheated too, but I can't pick just 10, I just can't....! And these are the ones that would leave holes <<this big>> in my heart.
