No Country For Old Men / Top 5 Coen Bros. Scenes
From Fimspotting #185... Matty calls No Country For Old Men one of the best films of the year. I say it *is* the best film of the year (so far). Share your thoughts and favorite Coen Bros. moments here.

Re:No Country For Old Men / Top 5 Coen Bros. Scenes
I just saw Old Country for No Men yesterday! AMAZING! Is it shocking to find a Coen brothers movie with absolutely no musical soundtrack?? The opening shots of Texas with narration gives it the feel that we are back to Blood Simple. To make a list of my favorite Coen moments is a huge task! I don't know if I'm up to it at this moment, but hopefully I'll remember to return to this thread soon.

Right now I would say "The Lookout" is the best film of 2007 so far with "No Country For Old Men" directly behind.

Re:Re:No Country For Old Men / Top 5 Coen Bros. Scenes
Can't state if it is the best movie of the year, because my memory of past movies is shaken. But this is definately my favorite movie for as far as my memory well take me, this year. As you touched upon in your podcast I was both intrigued and intoxicated by the silence. It made everything more real and suspensefull. But I was more annoyed then contented, then you and Matty were by the lack of violence and death shown on screen towards the end. I love the clever ways they showed that the murder was taken. Like him checking the bottom of his shoe, on the way out of the house, for blood after killing the wife. But I wish they would of went back and forth a little bit. Shown one murder don't show one. You are loaded with violence in the begginning of the movie that it feels like they are telling me I can't handle anymore. I saw your point that you were done seeing it, but I who is one who is a horror movie fanatic still had a desire to witness more.

Re:No Country For Old Men / Top 5 Coen Bros. Scenes
The purpose of the Mike Yanagita scene plot-wise was that it showed Marge she could be fooled by a lie. Right before, she was at the dealership and bought Lundegaard's story. After Mike, and hearing that what he said was a lie, she realises maybe Lundegaard might not have been telling the truth either, so she returns to the dealership.

What are we make of the last 20 minutes and the decision to kill moss off-screen? I like the movie but I feel that something is missing. So of the cuts seemed so akward -- am I missing something? I wonder what the DVD will love like and what the commentary tracks will say.

Re:No Country For Old Men / Top 5 Coen Bros. Scenes
Saw "No Country..."this weekend and would agree that it's one of the best of the year so far. It's one of the few that I want to go back and see again right away. Javier & Josh give such quiet intensity to their roles - a lot of depth without a lot of dialogue. My other contenders for best movie of the year are "Lars and the Real Girl" and 'Persepolis".

I've been hearing people say good things about "The Lookout," and I'm not really sure why. When I went to see it, I was pretty disappointed. I'm trying to remember what it was about the movie I didn't like. I seem to remember the plot moving too slowly for me. Maybe I'm just impatient, and there was something going on that I just didn't get. I dunno. My top Coen Bros. scenes: -The ferret in the bathtub scene from "The Big Lebowski" -The "summer rain" scene from "O Brother" -The first scene with the apocalyptic bounty hunter in "Raising Arizona" -The wood chipper scene in "Fargo" (for some reason I just can't get over the image of Steve Buschemi's foot sticking out of that thing. It gave me awesome shivers.) -The bowling dream sequence from "Lebowski."

Re:No Country For Old Men / Top 5 Coen Bros. Scenes
I just saw Miller's Crossing, and I really think that's one of my new Cohen's favorites...I still have to see Blood Simple. And No Country is by far the best film of the year, no questions asked.
