The Jolie distraction factor

It's very interesting that a significant portion of the review of A Mighty Heart revolved around whether it's possible to consider Angelina Jolies' performance apart from her current cultural notoriety. But that is as it should be, given the power of mass media. It would be dumb (or tragically hip) to ignore the elephant in the room. I think we should forgive Angelina for being so much more hated and adored than we all are and try to appreciate what may be good or honestly observe what doesn't ring true in her performance. I think Adam and Sam did a good job of being as fair  and dispassionate as they could manage to be. Since Angelina's celebrity will fade before this film will, it's best to consider whether the film and performances will stand the test of time. The impression I took from the review is that this is a really good, possibly great movie and I am looking forward to seeing it and finding out for myself.

Thanks for the feedback. It really was something I was prepared to ignore on some level... but then everything I heard about the movie focused on Jolie and I felt that we should at least address it. Let us know what you think of the film! -Adam

Hey Adam,

I was shaken by A Mighty Heart. Winterbottom doesn't spare a detail in showing us Karachi and the avenues of this "War on Terror" that we may never understang.

Angelina Jolie and Irrfan Kahn were amazing.

 Honest, complicated, heartbreaking.

 Love the show,

 Alex

It seems unfair a penalize actors who have reach a level of fame, at least in part because they are very good at what they do, because its impossible not to be oversaturated with the details about the celebrity's personal lives. Celebrity gossip is as old as film itself, but it has reach a whole new level with youtube, tmz.com, and the rest of the internet. I can certainly understand being sick of certain personalities, but the question is how much can that be blamed on these actors, and how much of it is our fault for being too interested?
