Re: REMAKES & BOOK ADAPTATION!!
1. Adaptation - Well, the obvious first choice for adaptation (and the most creative movie adaptation I've seen, although I'm not sure I'd like to be the author). 2. L.A. Confidential - They managed to condense a lot of this densley plotted book into an effective movie, at first I was annoyed with its 'Readers Digest' take on Ellroy, but years later, I see it was the right way to go. 3. 1984 - both an adaptation and a remake, John Hurt makes a great Winston Smith, the dark industrial atmosphere perfectly captures the feel of the book and Richard Burton gives a great last performance.

Re: REMAKES & BOOK ADAPTATION!!
hi hairyLime do u really think adaptation is that much praiseworthy? cage was again on his stero type acting..maryl seemed aged and sometimes she tried to act...the movie was so slow in its artwork..clumsy in some rated scenes..though it was a great adaptation(just from the pages of book to the screen!) but does that mean it is a success? i suppose not..wat do u think about pride and prejudice (both the modern versions including gurinder chadha made indian one!)

Re: REMAKES & BOOK ADAPTATION!!
I'm sure I could have picked any number of 'classic book adaptations', Pride and Prejudice was ok (haven't seen the Indian musical yet, but have heard it is pretty good), any of the Merchant Ivory EM Forester films, Gone with the Wind, Grapes of Wrath, Rebecca, etc etc - I chose Adaptation purely from a standpoint of a creative way to adapt a seemingly unfilmable book and actually make it work as its own entity, instead of the usual method of trying to live up to what the faithful reading audience expects with a rote retelling of the story. I think that's the biggest problem I have with the Harry Potter movies - what works in a book (dangling cliffhanger at the end of every chapter) doesn't always work on the screen.

Re: REMAKES & BOOK ADAPTATION!!
I'll give it a shot. 1. Batman - You could argue that comic books don't meet the literary requirements, but there is no doubt that Hollywood loves to make films off of them. I suppose Superman, Spiderman or the Xmen could all fit in that spot, but I choose Batman because Hollywood keeps on producing films from that franchise no matter how bad things get. 2. Bram Stoker's Dracula - This story has been told many times. Sometimes true to the original story and sometimes very different, but it's had a big influence on the film industry. 3. Romeo & Juliet - Not really my cup of tea, but filmmakers can't help themselves from cashing in on this weepy love story. Every generation has seen a different version of the film done. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse.

Yes, a great adaptation. This may be the role that John Hurt was born to play, although I guess that's a pretty bleak idea. The movie's tough for me to watch very often, but I manage it every 3 or 4 years.

Reggie, regarding 1984 - there are a couple versions of this out there, be sure and try and see the redone version without the Eurythmics music, it is much more effective.

Re: REMAKES & BOOK ADAPTATION!!
Hey y'all. Color me silly for asking, but what is the point of this group? I'm def a movie maniac as much as the next person, but what's the overall focus of the group? I'm a little confused, and I've been invited (thanks), so I'd like to know. Much appreciated, ladies and gents.
