Something besides Disney - PLEASE!

I have nothing against Disney (although I know I have supressed the reasons that I should.) Having a 5 and 8 year old, I own most of the Disney collection.  However, I would like to add more to our collection but don't know where to begin.  I'm hoping folks will share some known and unknown English language (because my daughter doesn't read quite yet) films.

Flight of the Navigator is definitely one of my favorite childhood movies.

It wasn't so much the plot that makes the film so memorable to me now, it was the film's ability to bring me to a place where I believed that what was happening actually was possible.  It wasn't only possibile, it actually happened.  And it could happen to me.

Nice try Xavier, but Flight of the Navigator is definitely a Disney movie as well.  Unless you didn't notice that she said she was looking for movies that were NOT from Disney.

It might help if you let us know exactly how old your child is.  I could recommend some stuff I think is great, but maybe it would be too scary or confusing.  Until I hear more, I'll just say Time Bandits is a lot of fun.  Although some of my favorite parts are probably parts that the kids might not even understand.

I actually really liked the Fox Animation Studios stuff, much more than Disnet/Pixar and Dreamworks: Robots, Ice Age and Ice Age 2

In my haste to become an evangalist Flight, I completely forgot to ensure that it wasn't Disney... I guess that's why it aired on the Disney Channel, eh?

I was in my late teens when Robots came out (don't want to age myself too much here!), and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Rizzo, are you looking for their zodiac signs or something? "For an eight year old Libra, Crocodile Dundee. For an eight year old Leo, Crocodile Dundee 2 ."

Thanks leeroy711, we do own Robots and really like that one. We haven't seen the ice-age movies yet and will have to check them out. Appreciate the recommendations.

I've got a 4, 7, and an 8 year old. You also can't go wrong with muppets.
