When I think of GORE, I think of...

... the old classic Itallian Splatter Movies of the late 70's and early 80's...   Fulci, Argento, Lenzi, Bava, Franco, D'Amato ...   but then I must give credit to the American 'pioneers' of this genre... H.G. Lewis, George Romero, Tom Savini, Sam Raime, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Clive Barker, Tobe Hooper... but we must never forget the most important of them all... PETER JACKSON, who brought "The Lord Of The Rings" to life, also directed some of the sleaziest and sickest 'chunk-blowers' you have ever seen...   and I must give a mention to Todd Browning and James Whale ...

Peter Jackson!

There's certainly something about his maniacal energy and good humor in showing buckets and buckets of gore and flesh flying about.  'Brain-dead/Dead Alive'  is a blood and gore besplattered piece of good humor; something that should be distributed from an ice-cream like van with a tinkling bell.  ( I am not a big fan of the Lord of Rings cycle, I just couldn't stand looking at the terrible sets of feet).

You made a good contrast with the inclusion of Clive Barker.  The first 'Hellraiser', which I found with no humor whatsoever, but then, all the better made to creep the dickens out of me. ( If I remember correctly, it came out sometime around Christmas time in my area of the country and I remember taking the members of my office out on a bit of a field trip to see it; I am pretty sure no one really thanked me for my generous offer...)

I suppose there's a discussion here, the applicability of good humor, versus having none,  in horror movies; or at least the reasons for inclusion/exclusion. With humor, I suppose it gives us the opportunity to take a moment, get our bearings and proceed to have the dickens scared out of us?  Where the absence of humor just allows us to be pummeled into a quivering mass of fear?  I can't say which is the most moving to me.  What makes the biggest "BOO"?

The jiggling bag of the appendage-less victim thrashing about inside in Audition; set the hackles up from stem to stern along my spine. Decidedly 'un-funny' and very decidedly 'scary'.

Under discussion:

Brain Dead  (1989)

Hellraiser  (1987)

Audition  (1999)

..MY Bad...  Clive Barker is not an American....

Nor is Peter Jackson... but if you read my post carefully, I did not list Peter Jackson among the 'Americans' ...

ah, crap Dr_Gor, you responded.  I thought 'serioussmoker' was talking about me, because, of course I indeed do; 'look like a dick' that is. I am starting a new forum which is simply pregnant with potential... 'Who in the heck is the best looking person on Spout'.

Which films do you think have the most 'implied' gore, those that your imagination just gets the better of you? there is Pyscho and 'M' for me, I need to think of more...

please try this link to the site courtesy of our group leaders here...

http://www.bloodgutsandgore.com/

the gore per film is rated, described, and quantified on a moment by moment basis... take your pick of the listings based upon your take on the descriptions.
