Love for orig. Black Christmas

I loved the orig., but didn't get introduced until Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments.  I remember thinking how cheesy it seemed w/ Margo Kidder ("you're a real gold-plated whore, mom."- fav. line_) being stabbed to death w/ a crystal unicorn.  But somewhere along the line I actually thought how unfortunate and tragic the movie might seem in 74', featuring it little christmas themes (very gutsy for 74, right?).

Still hate the eye through the crack in the door-----  ah!

And I have to say its wierd thinking about SCTV's Andrea Martin getting axed in a horror flick.  I don't think its the scariest by far, but I have grown to have a definite appreciation for Black Christmas.

Although I am loath to see and saddened to think about, Andrea Martin getting hacked to itsy teeny bitsy bits, I appreciate the suggestion of this film. I will add it to my list of annual holiday viewing along with 'It's a Wonderful Life', 'Christmas Story', and 'the Greatest Story Ever Told'

Wait! not that one, THIS one!

If it's your first time seeing it, I don't think Black Christmas would fit perfectly with that lineup. However, I was also pleasantly suprised when I first saw that entertaining horror film. I can't believe that is the same director that went on to make such complete crap like Baby Geniuses, Porky's II, and Karate Dog. This was the beginning of Margot Kidder's time in the limelight and I always enjoy John Saxon. This new version looks like it is going the usual slasher route and probably doesn't have nearly the tension that this underrated and forgotten thriller has.

Re: Love for orig. Black Christmas

you sir, have hit it exactly with your question!!! the lack of trying and the acceptance of same, troubles me to no end, for it is not as if good material does not exist.  Remake, Remake, Remake; why???

I cannot think at the moment, but could anyone kindly name one remake that was better than, nay equal to, the original???

Cape Fear?

Solaris?

Great Expectations?

Pride and Prejudice?

The Italian Job?

The Hills have Eyes?

Black Christmas?

Assualt on Precinct 13?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre?

The Parent Trap?

Now you guys have gotten me going on a RANT that I have been carrying on with some of my 'Horror Movie' friends for quite some time now...  the bottom line is this, HOLLYWOOD has run out of original ideas and so they are 'remaking' everything in sight... this is nothing new, this has been going on since the 'silent era'...   what IS new is that this is now going on on a Gigantic Scale....

I fully agree that NO MODERN REMAKE can live up to it's predecessor.   You cannot 'remake' a MASTERPIECE and expect it to be better than the original.... "PSYCHO" comes to mind, and "KING KONG"...

And, as we speak, they are 'remaking' ... "Friday The 13th", "The Birds", "Halloween" (duh), "Sisters",  and some others...

I too, am a huge  Halloween  fan...  I think that the original is one of the top ten 'masterpeices' of modern Horror...   And, I too am a Rob Zombie fan... although I did not particularly appreciate his use of My Favorite Song, FREEBIRD, in "The Devil's Rejects"...

I am looking forward to seeing this 'remake'..  although, I already know that it will not live up to it's predecessor...

I have said it a hundred times before... You CANNOT Remake a MASTERPEICE and expect it to be better than the original... (duh) ...
