H. H. Holmes and serial killers

I just saw an interesting documentary on H H Holmes, H.H. Holmes: America's First Serial Killer.  Some of the production was kind of goofy, but he's an interesting fellow.  I mean a real sicko.  He started doing his dirty work shortly after Jack the Ripper, and it seems like he really outshadowed him.  Strangely enough, I don't think I had heard of him before I saw this doc though.

Anyone else seen this movie or know of any good movies about real serial killers?

Ok.   Where to begin...   Obviously,  Psycho The Texas Chainsaw Massacre  and   Silence of the Lambs  ('Buffalo Bill') were all loosely based on the infamous Wisconson madman Ed Gein.   But there have been some movies that deal more directly with this insaniac, including  Deranged  and  Ed Gein  and the recently released  Ed Gein: The Butcher Of Plainfield  starring Kane 'Jason' Hodder.

Henry Lee Lucas has been the subject of more than a couple movies including  Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer  and  Diary of a Serial Killer .

Obviously,  Jack The Ripper  has been the subject of MANY movies...   I won't even begin to list them all here.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown  is based on the infamous 'Green River Killer' ...

And perhaps my favorite, few people know that the original  Dirty Harry  was, in fact, based on the notorious 'Zodiac Killer' ...

There have been multiple movies made about 'The Son Of Sam' , 'John Wayne Gacy' , 'Jeffrey Dahmer' and 'Charles Manson' as well.   I will be back later with more.

I have not seen the documantary on H. H. Holmes but I have read about him...   appearantly he was a very bad boy...

Oh!   One more...   The Boston Strangler  with Tony Curtis is an excellent movie!

   Be back later with more...

Re:H. H. Holmes and serial killers

I had not heard of H.H. Holmes either, that is really interesting.  Maybe Jack the Ripper got all the fame because it was unsolved...

There have been a LOT of serial killers out here in Washington, especially around Seattle.  It's a little unsettling sometimes, I wonder if it's the lack of sunshine (water just seeps slowly into the brain).

It's really interesting that I love a lot of scary movies but I could not sit through Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer, it just disturbed me WAY too much.  I thought the movie about Ed Gein was pretty good for a low budget movie, from the things I have heard about him, I think this one was pretty close to accurate.  I think I like watching the documentaries about them or Cold Case Files about them.  It just blows my mind that killers like the Green River killer or the BTK killer were both married, had families and just lived this other life.  It really makes me really wary of dating anyone because of that...

Offhand I can think of Speck, Starkweather, BTK Killer, Green River Killer, Zodiac Killer, Dahmer and Ted Bundy.  There are many more, including of course those so far mentioned, but this will be a sufficiently sick start to your serial killer library.

They, like any genre of film, vary in quality, accuracy and levels of violence, so be prepared in going through them to take the best with the worst.  :)

I just remembered Aileen Wuornos.

I haven't seen any of the documentaries about her, but I have seen Monster and it was pretty good.

I have seen the documentary about her on A&E, I'm not sure what show it was.  Hearing her story it makes you feel kind of sad for her and you can see why she is so screwed up.  But there are a LOT of screwed up people out there that DON'T go on a killing spree.

Most Serial Killers do come from a desturbing background. I'm not sure if there is a movie or Docu about him, but, Edmund Kemper's story would make for a good movie. There is also a movie out named Girl next door which is based on a true story that lead me to belived that any one of those kids would have grown up to be serial killers

Girl next door. . . Most movies, I can sit down and eat a full meal, no matter what it is! Nothing usally phases me. Gore or truly disgusting is my life! Don't get me wrong, I do like other things. . Girl Next door, really made me uneasy! I liked the film alot, but . . Those kids and the mother could of easily been the next John wayne Gacy!
