Hollywood Remakes

Ok I must say im guilty of rushing out and seeing the remakes, and in some case they have were well worth it and quite enjoable.  But the recent list of upcoming remakes tends to make me absolutely nauseated. First I want to start with the cannibal holocaust remake.  This is a line that just does not need to be crossed. There was a lot of controversy the first time, and this movie just cannot be topped no matter how it is done.  So why try?? Leave it alone. I have also read that a remake for motel hell is in the works and slated for release around december. This was a b movie, it was perfect in its own rite, and very few people wanted to see it in the first place. (this is also one of my favorites) Why make something that you know you are going to lose money on. Or try to rewrite it and destroy the plot line and piss all the fans off that enjoy the original.  And what was the deal with black xmas???? Come on are there really that many unoriginal people out there.  I get so tired of hollywood latching on to something just to sell a name. I havent read this from any credible sources as of yet but I also hear that Wes craven is planning a remake of both last house on the left and A nightmare on elm street.  how does everyone else feel about this???

Re: Hollywood Remakes

I just can't believe they would try to remake A Nightmare on Elm Street.  Robert Englund is the ONLY Freddie I could ever imagine.  But you are right, it all comes down to what is going to sell, money is the bottom line.  I love to watch Motel Hell, it is the funniest and sickest movie ever, I can't see them remake this either because Rory Calhoun is just so perfect as Farmer Vincent (it takes all kinds of critters...)  - Last House on the Left - whew - that is one of those movies I only want to see every once in a while...But I know when I think of a lot of my favorite horror movies it just makes me sick to think they are trying to make something better than the original but maybe one time they might surprise us and make it phenomenal!  Who knows...

I know we have discussed remakes before - BUT are there any old movies out there that you could see being a GOOD remake (especially if Tim Burton or Rob Zombie redid them).  I know that Legend of Hell House is one of my favorites but I could actually see this being redone and made spookier and a lot bigger.  OF course no one could replace Roddy McDowell in my opinion but that would be pretty cool to see.  Any others anybody else would like to see.  Even old black and white movies from the 40s and 50s and 60s?

Re: Hollywood Remakes

I like the idea of a Last House on the Left remake.....  The orig. promised something that many movies have and I have never quite seen.    The jilted good-guys terrorizing the crap out of the bad people for revenge.  High Tension and Devils Rejects tried and came close, but that only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

There is a secret longing in every good persons heart I think to terrorize the crap out of the people that want to come in a ruin everything.....  Okay maybe its just me.   I have always wanted the horror/slasher movie formula turned on its ear and pointed at the baddies for a change.

"The Last House On The Left" remake is underway with Wes Craven not directing but producing this one!   I do not recall who the new director is.    I hate to say it, but this one might be interesting!    Same with Rob Zombie's upcoming remake of "Halloween"!    Although I am more skeptical of this one as it would be VERY HARD to outdo the original!

Looks like there is a remake of Hellraiser planned for release next year as well.  This is kind of obscene.

Under discussion:

Hellraiser  (1987)

I have said this before....   when somebody announces that they are doing a remake of "The Exorcist",  I am going to go on a bloody rampage to try to prevent this from happening!

I'll be right with you on that one!  Except in this day and age the little girl that plays Meagan (sp) won't get hurt like Linda Blair did because of all the special effects that they can do today.  Nothing is sacred in Hollywood.  I really hope they wouldn't attempt that, but if they are doing it to these other movies, I'm sure that one will probably be on the Agenda.  sigh.

The Hellraiser remake is slated also, but this one wont be as bad . Clive barker is actually going to write and direct it and make this more his vision .  THe first hellraiser.... which was perfect was not exaclty how clive barker wanted it due to budget restrictions etc. So this one will probably kick ass .

Re: Hollywood Remakes

Well, if that's the case for Hellraiser, that would be really cool.  I've read several Clive Barker books and they are all so intricate, with lots of characters and images, I just can't imagine how they made Hellraiser into a movie as good as it was the first time.  To me, those movies aren't as Sacred as The Exorcist, Nightmare on Elm Street, etc.  I am kind of excited to see what Rob Zombie does with Halloween.  I will try very hard NOT to compare it to the original.  So we will see...

I received Sam Raimi's CrimeWave from Netflix today, but I won't be able to watch it until Sunday, so I will let you all know how I liked it.  It looks really funny.

I think that Halloween will be cool, as long as Rob doesn't try to turn Micheal into some kind of mis-understood super-hero.  : )
