Most Interesting, strange, Bizarre Scary Movie
After seeing A Virgin Among the Living Dead and thinking I was watching a French Art Film, I was wondering what other movies out there are kind of cool but very strange, maybe even leaving you with a feeling that you aren't even sure if you liked it or not...I don't know how many of you saw Eraser Head - now that was a strange but cool movie (didn't David Lynch direct it?), I don't know if I would really call it a scary movie, but it was very creepy in several places and SOOOO interesting. If you ever want to see a movie that is TOTALLY different from anything you've ever seen, you have got to watch this (but don't watch it if you are really hyper because it moves kind of slow). Koyaanisquatsi is another movie that was very cool but different (I know a LOT of you would not put this movie in a scary movie category BUT the very end when the folk legend from the Navajo (I think Navajo or Cherokee Indians) flashed on the screen, it really freaked me out. And of course Phillip Glass did all the music for it (this is a very good movie to watch if you are extremely mellow and just want to sit there and watch the rise and fall of man with no talking at all. But it's pretty cool. What are some others that you can think of?

Re: Most Interesting, strange, Bizarre Scary Movie
At the top of my bizarre horror movies list is The Audition. It's a Japanese horror movie. It starts out a bit slow building up the 'mood' which is typical of Japanese horror, but boy does the ending make up for it. There's a scene showing quite an interesting use for piano wire that makes me squirm every time I see it.

Yes, Audition was very bizarre and disturbing but it was a REALLY interesting, good movie. I don't know if I want to watch it again for a while... I just thought of another very Avante Guard movie - Did anyone see The Hunger with Catherine Deneuve - I would consider that a Vampire ART film. Very dreamy eerie and interesting...

I enjoyed "The Hunger" ... What is NOT to like about Catherine Deneuve! Another that is not really 'horror' but it IS a bit scary in spots and is QUITE bizzare is "2001: A Space Odyssey" ...

What about Phantasm? That is a very cool, strange movie. I LOVE the slow motion they use at certain parts and the images. It was extremely fantasy like but very scary too.

Phantasm was a pretty neat film. Quite bizarre indeed. I think of the floating ball things when I think of that movie....And that cheese yellow blood stuff. Heh. What about Suspiria? Directed by Argento. I remember the brilliant use of colors and the girl falling through the class scene the most. It's been a while since I have seen this one, but it was pretty odd.

Oh yes, Suspiria is a good one too. Most of Dario Argento's films are like that. Very strange but the settings are really cool. Opera was like that too of his, very different with beautiful and strange and gorey images...

Re: Most Interesting, strange, Bizarre Scary Movie
In honor of Horror Movies 101, I quit watching those stupid IMBD classics last night and rented Rest Stop. Not bad! Plus some clever extras. Once more, the bad guy who won't die, but the ending still suprised me a little. (Plus, 3 alternate endings.) But no commentary. Bad. A couple of times lately, when in the movie the car breaks down and the hapless couple/family/frat boys make their way to the lonely house, I've just turned on the commentary and watched the movie that way. Can make a bad movie good.

Rest Stop isn't too bad, it is pretty exciting in a lot of parts. Poor Joey Lawrence is in there for about 10 minutes...yes, I was suprised with the ending too? I just didn't get it... Anyway, a friend and I watched Dead Mary last night, it was interesting, kind of zombie like, I kind of spaced out a little bit and played on the computer until he finished watching it. Also saw the newer version of Black Christmas, it wasn't too bad at all (a little too gorey for me in some places but all the Christmas lights and snow was very pretty - until the blood was splattered everywhere. eeek).

Re: Most Interesting, strange, Bizarre Scary Movie
Another very strange, interesting movie I saw was Akira Kurosawa's Dreams. I'm putting this as a scary movie too because there were a few stories about ghosts and one was a demon after a nuclear holocaust, etc. It was a little spooky in some parts. I can tell you that it moved very slow in some places but the scenary was really breathtaking. It is definately worth watching just because of that and to see Japanese culture and folk legends come to life. It was very cool and very bizarre at the same time, I guess that is why it is called his dreams...just don't watch it when you are really hyper.
