Top 5 Title Sequences

I guess we could call this the Saul Bass Memorial List. Here goes.

1. Vertigo (1958)
2. Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)
3. Se7en (1995)
4. Fahrenheit 451 (1966)
5. Cape Fear (1991)

Re:Top 5 Title Sequences

I've been noticing for the past few years the increased lack of titles in films. I love the classic style of doing a title / credit sequence at the beginning of films, kinda what Woody does for most of his films.
Anyways, some of my favorites are:
1.) Se7en - Creepy as hell, incredibly inventive, awesomely remixed song and sets the mood for the entire film. Also has one of the best credit sequences that was also inventive (going backwards) and a great song.
2.) American Psycho - With the drops of "blood" eventually being nothing more than raspberry sauce on a gourmet dessert: that's was awesome.
3.) Dr. Strangelove - Completely original, disturbing (two planes "making love") and a beautiful score that grabs your attention.
4.) Beetlejuice - The beautiful aerial shot that makes its way through the country town and up the hill to a house that "WTF! There's a giant tarantula, no wait, it's a miniature model of the house." That was cool.
5.) Almost Famous - Simple, yet captures the heart of the film perfectly.

I completely forgot how much I loved the twisted title sequence of Ginger Snaps.

Playfully dark and really sets the mood for the rest of the film.

I really enjoy the Saul Bass credit sequence for Bunny Lake Is Missing.

Funnily enough, I watched this about 2 days before going to see The Orphanage, which used almost the exact same sequence.

I can't believe no one said Star Wars.

Hitchcock films and the Bond films deserve mention.  As do the Pink Panther films...

I need to come up with a list...and get back here.

Heh, was it the opening prologue or the title sequence? Cause I do like the Star Wars title flying into the screen with that amazing score, but if you're refering to the slow creep of the intial prologue to it then I'm not sure if that's the titles necessarily.

I know, I'm a nitpicking bastard, but I have no life. Sorry.

Maybe you should clarify what you define as the "title sequence".  I've held off really posting anything because I'm not sure what qualifies.

Is that part of the title sequence? I've been thinking it was a prologue to the film. If it is, my mistake.

I didn't start this discussion but I'm guessing that the title sequence is that in which the studio / production company / title of the film / director / cast is introduced. A lot of films use at least one of these at the start of the film, some none at all. So I guess it's pretty much up to the viewer to decide what qualifies as the titles to the film.

I wasn't insinuating the Star Wars things was the title sequence, I just wasn't sure.  For instance I wasn't sure if the montage at the beginning of Raising Arizona counts since titles aren't shown during it, but it all leads up to showing the actual title of the film.  And that sequence is awesome!
