Top 5 Bands That Get Their Names From Movies.
Top 5 Bands That Get Their Names From Movies. 5. Duran Duran: A villain in Barbarella. 4. 10,000 Maniacs: B horror movie called 2000 maniacs! 3. Misfits: 1961 movie starring Clarke Gable and Marilyn Monroe. 2. White Zombie: 1932 Victor Halperin classic. 1. Black Sabbath: 1963 horror movie starring Boris Karloff. (edit) Although I can think of many that are not on it, here is a small cheat-sheet.

Re: Top 5 Bands That Get Their Names From Movies.
Wow. this may be the hardest topic for top 5 anyone has come up with.
I can only think of a few and this is stretching it.
1. Deerhunter - their latest album Cryptograms is unbelievable. and also a movie 2. Xiu Xiu - I love this band. really really bizarre. and i've heard of the movie, but never seen it. 3. The Roots - Maybe this is after Roots? 4. The Good, The Bad, and the Queen - I can only assume it was influenced by the good, bad and ugly.
This topic may be a little abstract!

Alright :-) Although I can think of many that are not on it, here is a small cheat-sheet. Can anyone tell me a band that is named after a character from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory?

Veruca Salt, duh. But maybe thats easy because I was in High School in the 90s. And hands down, the best band with a name from a movie, ever, is THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS!!!

Re: Top 5 Bands That Get Their Names From Movies.
I'm just going to pick my favorites from the cheat sheet that Ovation provided because there's no way in hell I'd come up with band names that are associated with movies. My brain is already too full of useless trivia to be helpful for this topic. 1. Duran Duran 2. Bad Company 3. 10,000 Maniacs 4. They Might Be Giants 5. Black Sabbath With honorable mention to Eve 6, because I like that one song they did, but that name comes from an X-Files eppy, which is not a movie. My other problem is, I can't remember who sings what songs (except in those above five cases). This what happens when you listen to and watch everything. Everything gets jumbled in the brain. Seriously.

Re: Top 5 Bands That Get Their Names From Movies.
So, I'm trying to come up with both good bands and good films. 1. The Misfits: A devastating film with the last performances from Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gabe, and Montgomery Clift. One of John Huston's best films, and for some reason, a completely underrated and under-seen film. The band is a fantastic Horror-Rock/Punk band. 2. Godfinger: The third and possibly best film in the Bond series (Casino Royal has made me reconsider this statement). Everything that made me love the bond films as a kid can be found here. 3. They Might Be Giants is a very cool modern day take on Sherlock Holmes. George C. Scott (as aways), gives a great performance. 4. Black Sabbath: I love Boris Karloff films, even when they are bad. This is one of his better non Universal Monster series films. I think we all know the band. 5. HONEYMOON KILLERS: A very good and very disturbing 1970's film about a newly married couple who enjoy a little killing now and then. Scorsese was originally hired to direct, but was but go over creative differences.

Re: Top 5 Bands That Get Their Names From Movies.
They Might Be Giants is definitely my favorite band of all time! I have like 40 hours worth of their music on my iPod I think. Yet I still haven't seen the movie!!! I'm actually gearing up to though. I've been reading some Sherlock Holmes, and I think I'd like to read Don Quixote first. I was actually looking around about this today. Does anyone have a suggestion for the best English translation? Some of my other favorites from that link are Mr. Bungle, Man or Astro-Man?, and Cornelius. The Wu-Tang clan obviously comes from all of those Wu-Tang Kung-Fu movies. I'm assuming Adam Ant is a derivative of the Atom Ant cartoon show. Urusei Yatsura is taken directly from the title of an anime. I swear the I read The Avalanches were named after a quote from some movie. They use the quote in the song Frontier Psychiatrist. There's a rumor that The Fratellis were named after the characters in Goonies, but I guess that isn't true. And you should all check out this fantasic band from Chicago called The Bitter Tears. Their full name used to be The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant, but they shortned it because people always mispronounced it like The Bitter Tears of Petrol Vandecamp or something like that. They are great! Seriously see them live in Chicago some time! www.myspace.com/thebittertears http://www.thebittertears.com/ I can think of a lot more bands with literary references, if we want to go there.

Funny you should mention that. TMBG and Man... Or Astroman? are in a constant, neverending Godzilla battle in my mind, destroying lots of prime Tokyo real estate but neither side claiming victory. And then they gang up to beat the crap out of 30 Seconds to Mars and wander off into the sunset as lifelong pals. And yes, the Fratellis took their name from the Italian mobster villians in Goonies.

Re: Top 5 Bands That Get Their Names From Movies.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club took their name from Marlon Brando's motorcycle gang in "The Wild One."
In a strange coincidence, Lee Marvin's rival gang in the movie is called "The Beatles."
