Miyazaki
Apparently he has a new movie coming out next summer, entitled Gake no ue no Ponyo (Ponyo on a Cliff). "The film is Miyazaki's first since his 2004 megahit Howl's Moving Castle, which scored $169 million off 15 million admissions in Japan. The new film concerns a goldfish princess named Ponyo who wants to become human and her relationship with a 5-year-old boy.
Miyazaki, who is writing the original script, is basing the boy on his grandson, the son of Tales From Earthsea helmer Goro Miyazaki.
The seaside setting is inspired by the director's 2005 stay on Japan's Inland Sea, renowned for its scenic views.
Instead of incorporating ever more CG cuts into 2-D animation, as Studio Ghibli has done in recent films, Miyazaki intends to make "Ponyo" with a pastel watercolor, hand-painted look." [http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=19441] I'm excited to see this, I love Miyazaki's movies. So, what do you guys think?

Re: Miyazaki
I am looking forward to it's release. I have so far enjoyed many of Miyzaki's films with either Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away being my two favorites.

Re: Miyazaki
That sounds like its going to be a really beautiful film, and a healthy swing away from the all to prevelant shift into 3D animation. I have a friend who works on a lot of the CG in the Marvel comic films, but remains a purist at heart. I'm sure he'll be pretty excited to hear about the new flick and the intended aestheitc qualities. So, here is a really random question that actually came up this weekend at a party: What are those little, white things called in Princess Monanoke that live in the trees and their heads rattle? My brother and I have a big thing for them and are trying to hunt down a life size stuffed version of them. yeah, we are that weird:)

Re: Miyazaki
They're called kodama. I'm not sure if they actually make plushies of them though, you might have to get an artist commission for one.

Re: Miyazaki
I'd say an emo response to a Miyazaki film is appropriate;) no really, I remember the first time I watched one of his films, its actually incredibly emotional for something that is animated. Not that animated features lack emotion, its just unexpected I guess from the medium in comparison to live-action.

Re: Miyazaki
I think that this new movie will be just as good as the other miyazaki movies.
