Re: Hello Anime Lovers..
I really enjoy Haibane-Renmei and Kino's Journey. Both of them are kind of slow paced, and at times you may wonder if there is even a plot line. Yet, I get drawn into them and enjoy just being part of the story.
Another good one is Abenobashi:Magical Shopping Arcade which isn't nearly as slow paced.

Re: Hello Anime Lovers..
I don't really know what's so special about anime. For some reason it's just always appealed to me. It's probably the great art, and all the effort put into it. Plus, like any show it has to have a good plot. I find that anime tends to have alot better and deeper plots then other shows. And plus there are so many different types of anime that you can watch whatever you want depending on your mood, like comedy, drama or action. Plus there's the whole fandom and convention thing that is totally addicting.
Some good anime to start off with would probably be Cowboy BeBop, Trigun, Ghost in the Shell, Inuyasha, or Fullmetal Alchemist, since they are all popular and it seems like most people like them. You can probably view these on Adult Swim, which is Cartoon Networks adult programming at night. I'm not sure if they're still showing all of those, you could check their website for the scheduel, www.Adultswim.com Those all lean more towards action, so if you want something a little more "girly" I would recomend watching something like Fruits Basket or D.N.Angel, which are also pretty popular, though they aren't on tv that I know of.
As for renting them, I don't know where you could, I know there are a few places around here some where downtown I think, but you can buy anime at stores like Best Buy, or order it online, like on www.rightstuf.com
