Sub Vs. Dub
It's an ancient battle, dating back to the days when anime was first brought to the United States. Which is truly better: subs or dubs? Personally, I watch both subs and dubs. I don't understand the whole "dub-hating" thing. I can see why people would prefer to watch the original version, but that doesn't mean that the dubs aren't good too. True, there are a few bombs out there, especially those that have been edited for children’s television, but for the most part they're pretty good. Contrary to what some "sub-only" fanatics might think, the staff members working on the dubs put just as much effort into making their dubs and are just as concerned about pleasing the fans as the Japanese staff. If anything they work harder, because they have to do their best to get rid of the "dubs suck" reputation that they've gotten. I've had the chance to meet many of the producers and voice actors of these dubs at different conventions and they are very passionate about their work. Now this isn't to say that everyone has to watch dubs, I myself watch subs more often then dubs. I simply think that the hardcore sub fans should stop claiming every dub as being crap based on the one or two they may have seen or Cartoon Network or something. So, what do you guys think?

Re: Sub Vs. Dub
There's just something about language that informs culture and personality. There a certain quality to the Japanese language that informs the characters and emotions and stories that just seems impossible to replicate in English without it sounding like some kind of parody. So I guess I'm one of those sticklers for subbing faction.

Re: Sub Vs. Dub
Generally I would agree. Most, 99% really, of all dubbed Anime is garbage. Naruto anyone? I couldn't stand any more than ten seconds of it, it was just so horrible. The only Anime I thought was dubbed appropriately was Gundam Wing, but that's because it was the show that introduced me to Japanese animation and it was the only one that didn't sound entirely ridiculous. There might be other dubbed works that are good, but I haven't seen them yet. Well, Princess Mononoke maybe. In any case, I like the subbed works better for that very reason--you get a better imrpession of the characters with the original language.

Re: Sub Vs. Dub
Okay well at first it didn't seem to bother me the difference between sub vs dub but that was mostly because I'd only watch some series dubbed and others subbed I would never mix the two. But that soon changed when I watched a poorer quality episode subbed then watched the better quality of the same episode dubbed. Personaly I prefered the subbed version for the vibe it had. I got more into the episode then when it was dubbed (or maybe because it was my second time watching the episode) either way I prefer subbed over dubbed. It also helps me focus more because instead of my eyes wandering all over the screen not knowing what to look at and when I can focus on the subtitles and I don't get as many headacks (of course this is probably unrelated) The point I'm trying to say is that I've gotten so used to sub version that it seems ackward watching dub I'm not a dub hater. In fact I think the watching dubbed every once in awhile is refreshing but I can't diss the sub since I watched it 95% of the time. So I guess sub over dub when it comes to quantity and vibe but dub over sub when it comes to quick acuring events (to fast to read properly) and refreshing.

Re: Sub Vs. Dub
I don't find any of the better or worse in general, it really depends on the series, or which one you watch the show in first... Like the dub of DBZ better probably because i'm so used to it... If I can I always try to watch it in dub form (because it's sooo much less of a hassle than to read it and only practically look at the bottom half of the screen the whole time) another opposite example is one like Steel Angel Kurumi... I HATE the dub and her voice... it gives me a headache everytime I hear it, and I like the sub better... Ones like The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi though, is good both dub and sub... don't know what else to say... don't judge dubs or subs bad in general, make your choice by the series and how you like how they sound.

Re: Sub Vs. Dub
SUb FTW when u throw some english dub over it it sounds like they are having some major ISSUE's. Also Sub's do bring out the total feeling and they help to submerge you into the story other wise it is like rush hour 3 when the chinese guy is speaking french it is just humiliating! I like to butcher words ALOT!
