Witch Hunter Robin
I just finished the last episode of Witch Hunter Robin. For me it wasn't amongst the best, but it was very good. But no matter what, when an anime series has finished, I feel this great melancholy. Do you always feel this too? I've come to expect it and it's kind of why I watch anime series. I like to wallow in that feeling a bit. Do you think it's because of the style of anime, or is it just because the series are so long and get you invested in the characters over such a long period of time that you really feel like you are losing someone when it's over. I think most anime is endowed with wistful qualities.

Re: Witch Hunter Robin
I haven't seen any of the "Witch Hunter Robin" series, but I know exactly the feeling your talking about. Especially if the ending doesn't totally satisfy. It's like.... oh, and everyone goes there seperate ways.... The End. Grr. Getting invested in the characters is what definatly gets me down at the end.

Re: Witch Hunter Robin
I haven't watched Witch Hunter Robbin either, but I agree about feeling down when you finish a series, especially if it's a really good one. I think it's because you get so into the plot that you're dissapointed that you wont get anymore. Also, you learn about the charcters, and sometimes you can really feel their emotions and you feel like you know them. Then when the series is over you wont get to see those charcters anymore, so in a geeky otaku kind of way it's almost like losing a friend/friends.

Re: Witch Hunter Robin
It's both a wonderful feeling and a frightening and sad feeling. I think it's a stronger more true emotion than I can find with most movies.

Re: Witch Hunter Robin
I nearly pulled my hair out when Air gear ended and you dont even know what the heck happened to anyone i hate when they do that it makes me want more and then they dont give it. That is a killer among anime freaks like me. -_- i want to see how they go on and what is next. =*( it hurts me not to know.

Re: Witch Hunter Robin
I couldnt agree more, though admittingly there are series that simply go on too long and get to the point that even though I am invested I just dont care - *cough*Naruto*cough* I also think it has to do with the way the story ends. Take for example Gundam Seed and its Sequel Destiny. Starting with the original Seed and getting to know the characters, the series ended in such a way that you really didnt expect a sequel because the battle was won and only a handful of the main characters survived the final battle. Its sequel Destiny totally left the ending in such a way you would think there would be a sequel. I havent heard any news on this matter, so for this moment I dont think there is. I think there is also a certain part of us, the viewers, that desire more from an anime. More action, more drama, more story. I kind of felt this way with Death Note. Maybe we wish certain event had happend or we would have loved to see the story take a different path. I think its remarkable how many anime leave you wanting more. I often say it must be the hardest part of creating a work is ending it. Like being a programmer, when can you ever truly close the book on what you are doing.

Yes, grr! The first anime series that I ever got into was Inuyasha. It was just something about the whole "Sit boy!" thing that drew me in, but now it's obvious that the show was intended for kids and keeping up with every single episode won't get me anything but a headache. I'm not saying that I don't still enjoy the show, but I know that when it finally does end it's just going to be a big disappointment. Yeah, what a waste of time. I'll save my box sets for my nieces and nephews. lol

Re: Witch Hunter Robin
Ahh yes Inu Yasha - Rumiko's lovely warring states version of Ranma. Though the sit thing was funny, even the Japanese got annoyed by repetitive nature of the series. Which is why they ended it at 169 I believe, despite the fact that the manga is still going.

Re: Witch Hunter Robin
Oh yeah I totally know what you mean. In the case of Witch Hunter Robin it was especially that way because there were a bunch of loose strings. I mean what did happen to Robin!? Did she hook up with that guy, can't remember his name atm? I don't recall ever getting answers on that. A lot of times these series will end because there isn't enough support for them in Japan, but the manga that they are based on will continue and eventually wrap up the story. So if you ever feel that you got jipped try to find a translated manga. :) Berserk was another example of this.
