Cat People On Trial - Faces 7 Life Sentences For Being So Bad

I have no idea how this film ended up on my Spout want to see list, but whoever recommended this to me better hope I don't figure out how I found out about this because Cat People has to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen.  The acting is terrible, the plot line ridiculous and the ending absolutely absurd.

The movie is about a woman who meets her brother for the first time and finds out that she shares a disease that makes them turn into killer panthers everytime that they have sex with someone.  After turning into a panther, the only way to get back to human is to murder someone.

As if this is ridiculous enough, for some reason if they have sex with each other things are Ok.  Now had the incest angle in this film been done in such a way to add something to the film, I could look the other way here, but this aspect of the plot line added nothing to the film and only made watching it all that much more unbearable.  Add to this the hocus pocus of a voodoo woman who never quite defines what is going around and you've got a formula for an absolutely terrible move.

After sitting through the entire film, the only thing I was left curious about was how this film ended up in my must see list to begin.  If you haven't seen this film yet, take my advice and skip it, there are much better ways to spend an evening then to have to sit through this type of garbage.

I vote guilty of being a worst move ever.  five more votes and we'll look this cat in the worst movie ever cage and throw away the key.

Hey to be honest, your description actually make it sound pretty exciting to me!!

Maybe whoever suggested you see Cat People was actually referring to the original movie by Jacques Tourneur.  I have an inkling that one is a bit more inspired than the Paul Schrader version.

I didn't realize that there was a 1940's version.  I wonder if the 80's version is based off the same story line.  The earlier film does look much better, but after seeing this last one, I may be too afraid of the cats to check it out.  My description of the film may have been exciting, but the entire movie was pretty crazy and non-sensical the whole time.  The whole sexual undertone was very bizarre too, I'm glad I wasn't watching this one with a girlfriend.  .  I think the director may have had some kind of a weird cat festish and not in the sexy Halle Berry kind of way.

The original suggested stuff instead of showing. Kind of how the first Jaws waited until late into the film to show the shark while Jaws 3-D literally threw the killer in your face.

That's pretty interesting.  You know it was directed by Paul Schrader.  Sorry if you already know this, but he wrote many of Scorsese's most classic films.  I'm pretty interested by him.  I still may check it out some day.  But I'll probably see the original before that.

Honestly. One of my all-time favorite movies... like so much so that i can quote the dialog along while i am watching it... and i say this with no shame! :o) I have even bought it on DVD - twice!!! (original Image release and then the Universal release). This was Nastassia Kinski in her prime, and she is mezmorizing in the film. I am sorry you were so disap[pointed in it.
