Independence Day Faces Impeachment For Being Lackluster

I was browsing through the Hollywood Lackluster list and someone put Independence Day in as a lackluster.  I've seen the film a couple of times and have to vote not guilty on this one.  Yes, they sold out to Hollywood for the slick special effects and the top actors, but the movie itself is a non-stop action coaster and the special effects really did turn out great.  Add to this Smith's amiable comedy and Goldblum's straight role and I would just feel unpatriotic about putting this one in the Worst Movie Jail.

I agree!  It's pure popcorn fluff, but it's entertaining.  I saw this movie a couple of times in the theater because it was awesome to see aliens destroy things and because it was pretty funny - and not only Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum but also Judd Hirsch (as Goldblum's father).  It also had heart and some good old fashioned patriotism.  I vote not guilty as well.

I think instead of impeachment, this deserves subpoena.  I would even almost nominate this one as Worst Movie Ever I hated it so much.  To me, it truly was nothing more than one of those summer blockbusters that featured big names and big things falling down.  True, the cinematography was impressive at times, but the director assumed that the audience should love the characters without any development; there was no emotional momentum for me.  And what was with that scene in the tunnel where the (I think) woman was trying to outrun a bomb explosion?  It was so incredibly ridiculous to me that it was one of the (few) most memorable moments in the movie, and it's still foggy.

Sorry I agree...this movie is not that bad. It was a little funny, I mean I think I actually laughed...it can't be impeached, its not that bad.

Yes, I agree, it is the worst movie evr. I think I made it half way through the first time I watched it, then watched it all the way through the second time and remembered why I shut if off the first time. Impeach it please!

So supertroopers really isnt the worst movie ever?? :)

For those who dont know, spoutgirl thinks supertroopers is one of the all time worst movies. I on the other hand laugh hard every time I see it.

No, SuperTroops is the number one worst movie ever. Independence Day is like the number 3 worst movie ever. Mars Attacks is number 2.
Just to clarify.

Ok, again with my two cents.  First of all, ID:4 is way better than the Super Troopers or Mars Attacks (despite the latter's quirky premise).  Second of all, why is no one considering anything with Pauly Shore (with the possible exception of Encino Man) as worst movie ever?  I can think of a few of his that totally push ID:4 down the worst list.  Even still, don't impeach or subpoena ID:4.  P.S. Impeaching is worse than subpoenaing - with a subpoena, you'd just be calling the film to the stand, whereas impeaching it is accusing it of the crime of being worst movie ever.  Not to split hairs, but the day job finds me drowning in the legalese.  :-)

I agree that ID is extremely lackluster.

It was predictable, boring, and really forgettable. Doesn't help that Will Smith gave a typical performance that was on the same scale as his Men in Black roles.

Lock it up and throw away the key. I don't even care where. Worst movie, lackluster, work camp in Siberia. Two hours was 119 minutes more that I should have allowed myself to devote to this movie.
