Explosions in the Sky
Has anybody seen this film. First of all, I really don't ever like sports movies. I typically think they are cliché, and over dramatized, and just plain rediculous. BUT this film is an exception. I was blown away. The cinematography, the editing, the directing, and most of all, the MUSIC!
A texas band, called Explosions in the Sky did the entire score, and it is perfect. If you like epic art rock, you will love this band and this film.
I will go as far to say it is the best sports film I have seen
I highly recommend it. Call it varsity blues for grown ups.

Re: Explosions in the Sky
Best sports film? What about Hoosiers, Raging Bull, Rocky, Bull Durham...I could go on. It was definitely an enteraining movie although I think the book was better. I also get a bit annoyed when a director takes a non-fiction book and plays with the details. You can do that for fiction, but not real life for god's sake. I'll have to check out the band though...sounds interesting.

Re: Explosions in the Sky
Well, I know boxing is a sport, but I wasn't thinking of that when I said sports film. I was thinking team sports. You're right. That may be an exaggeration. I think it was one of the best. And I'm not that big of a Hoosiers fan (I know, its a classic). And as far as changing it up a bit, I have not read the book, so I am taking this just as cinematic quality, and a compelling story with a good theme. I like how the entire film showed how football meant everything to these kids. Absolutely everything. But in the end, it means nothing. High school football is such a miniscule part of these kids lives, and I think the last scene communicated that very well. But this is a music forum so I'll shut up. The last scene was also extremely effective because of the music from Explosions in the Sky. Buy the album titled "The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place". Like 3 out of the 5 songs on the album are the background music to Friday Night Lights. Amazing stuff.

Re:Re: Explosions in the Sky
That movie is decent but the band is phenomenal. If you live in texas they are playing at fun fun fun fest in austin around early november.
