Not many people know. I discovered it at a bar I would go to, and I think I'm the only person who EVER ordered it there. Once I finished the bottle, they never ordered another one. Hey, I like it though. Add it to some soda or something.

Campari . . . ICK! I remember when The Life Aquatic come out on DVD I went out and spent a decent chunk of change on a couple bottles of Campari and some sushi to have a little themed viewing party with some friends. Little did I know that only Steve Zissou is crazy enough to drink Campari on the rocks (I had absolutely no mixers in my apt.) and the night turned into a hilarious "I'll take a shot if you take a shot" with lots of accompanying photos of distorted faces after taking a swig of the ungodly tasting redish orange liquor.

But it has been a number of years since then. Maybe I should try it again.

As for a memorable quote from the film:

"I'll order you a red cap and a speedo."

Sounds like fun! I remember we used to have "Life Aquatic" quote-offs in high school. It also became very fashionable, for a time, to like Seu Jorge and David Bowie...I don't know about trends, but I still think they're both great.

From what I remember it has a sweet taste and bitter aftertaste. Or maybe it's the other way around.... I haven't had any in a while

I did a little research on Campari to ease my curiosity, and stumbled across a helpful Wikipedia article on it.

Wikipedia.org:

Campari is an alcoholic (alcohol 20.5%, 21%, 25% and even 28% depending on which country it is purchased) aperitif obtained from the infusion of sixty ingredients, combined and macerated in a blend of distilled water and alcohol. Campari is a type of bitters.

Campari was invented by Gaspare Campari between 1862 and 1867. Today the product is still composed of the same original ingredients, thanks to a formula which has remained a secret for almost 150 years. Campari is obtained from the infusion of bitter and aromatic herbs, plants and fruit in alcohol and water.

Sounds a lot like my favorite liquer (not liquor), Chartreuse, which lent its name to the shade of green we all know.

The knife quote is from The Royal Tenenbaums. It's the second time Pagoda stabs Royal. The first time he did it he was trying to collect a bounty on Royal's head, I think, but ended up nursing Royal back to health and becoming a sort of servant to him. The second stabbing was more related to Pagoda's frustration at the circumstances Royal had gotten them both into. (I'm putting it in context...)
