   But, seriously, everytime I link a movie on SPOUT I am directing my readers to a different website (IMDb).   This has been going on for more than a year.   You would think that the SPOUT administrators would have noticed this by now and would have corrected the problem.   It is obvious that they have not.   Obviously nobody cares.   I think that SPOUT needs some new management.

   I joined this site because I love movies and I started my little Horror Movies 101 group hoping to find a couple of people to talk about horror movies with.   This exploded into a big thing and it was great fun for awhile but I guess now the party is over.   Too bad.   I think we had a good thing going for awhile there.

I am hoping that virgin sacrifices won't be necessary. All I can say is that we are aware of the problem and are working on some potential fixes. Sorry you think we have abandoned the site and the community. We have been splitting our focus among several projects, so we haven't been as focused on Spout as we were in the past. Also, we don't sell films anymore, it's true, we shut down the Spout store a while ago, but we felt as though people could find the same service done well else where. No use reinventing the wheel. I can't fix the site, but if there is anything else I can help with, please let me know.

Hey, Christi, why don't you just tell everyone the truth. The "Spout-Gods" have abandoned this site and we are on our own. The "link-a-movie" function has not worked for me for more than a year! So I just link my titles to IMDb instead. Several of the stats have not been updated for nearly a year. There have been NO new members here for quite some time so I believe there is NO advertising. Looking through the movies I have not noticed ANY that are still for sale on SPOUT! I have purchased several films from SPOUT in the past and would continue to do so but I cannot find any movies for sale! It looks like this site is going down the drain and I will do everything in my power to keep my Horror Movies 101 group from going with it.

Yes, I'm still here. Sorry for my absence. Spout does seem to be loading quite slowly, and I reported this to our development team, they are looking into it. I'm not sure what to tell you about the two previous bugs. I can't really offer a time frame for when they will be fixed. All I can say is that we are aware of them and there are logged in our bugs/errors system. If we ever make headway on the issue, I will let you know.

I had all kinds of difficulty finding and using the movie Elegy (2008). First, it would not come up in a search. Then when I tried to "Link a Movie", it came up. But it was typed incorrectly: Elegy(2008) i.e., with no space. So I searched for it typed that way, and still no luck. So I decided to use the link function but, for the first time ever, the movie page came up in the Link box! Seems a mess.

Jim, I had the same problem with the "send" button not being there when writing in your blog. Apparently the button is there, just not visible. If you click where the button would normally appear it works. Your cursor should change into a hand with a finger pointing when you are over the button. It worked for me at least.

I've noticed that when using Firefox, the link a movie search does not work. It no longer brings up a list of films to insert.

The search works fine in Internet Explorer.

Errors on my listings

Trying to introduce myself via my profile, I discovered that 1000 Journals is listed twice, however, more infos are under a somewhat wrong name:

Can't link to Casablanca

I'm a bit frustrated with the new search system. Here are a few issues I am having:

1. When you put a phrase in the search box it presents a drop down menu of matching titles. You used to be able to right-click these links and copy the link to the clipboard. Now when I right-click the link my browser does not recognize it as a link and does not give an option to copy it.

2. You used to be able to search for actors or directors in the search box and come up with a list of movie pages they were mentioned in, now the search box apparently only searches within the actual title itself and not for any names of people.

3. Some movies in the database just don't come up when you do an exact search for them. Try typing in the phrases "the world according to sesame street" or "days of wine and roses" or "who's afraid of virginia wolf?"

You will get a page that displays something like this:

Invalid search, please refine search term and try again
Movie search for the world according to sesame street

but these are all exact names of titles in the system. Here are the links below:

We originally thought it had something to do with films featured in the Oscars, but it has subsequently been affecting films like Bullit--which came out in 1968. We'll have a fix for it soon, thanks again for your patience!

You are not the only person having problems with this. I've tested it myself as well and our dev team is working on this currently. I would like to say it will be fixed upon the next build, but I don't want to make any promises.

In order to remove a film from the list "Movies I want to see" go to the film you want to remove from the list (you can either search for the film, or go into the list itself) and click the "I want to see it" button. This will uncheck the button and remove that film from your "I want to see it" list.

Unfortunately the lists you start with are not able to be deleted at this time. I will discuss the possibility of making that functionality available, but I'm not sure that this will happen any time soon.

We have a fix for this issue on our Dev server, but are waiting to make it go live until we work out a few other bugs. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you want to let those people into your group, you can invite them from their profile page. Otherwise, we should have the fix out soon.

Unfortunately our development team is on vacation because it is the holidays in the States. Normally this would be fixed sooner. And in fact this bug is fixed on our QA server, but we are still doing some testing before pushing the latest build to production. I realize this isn't a very good answer, but there it is. Everyone will be back on January 5th 2009, and these problems will be fixed then.

It's funny. But with FF3 I failed too. Besides, I found that the site works quite slow.

I feel your pain, and I have already mentioned this issue to our dev team. They are quite aware of the problem, and are in the middle of discussing solutions. For right now the most easiest workaround would be to open up another tab in your browser for spout and use the standard search box to find the movie you want. Then just go to that movie's film detail page and copy the address right out of your address bar. Then head back to your blog, highlight the word you want to link, click the link icon (not the Link a movie one, but the button three to the left of it), and finally paste the address into the "Link URL" box. You can select an option for Target and enter a Title(this is hover text), but you don't have to do so.

I'm very sorry that's the only solution I can offer at this point, and no doubt you've already figured this out. Obviously this isn't a problem for every movie, but there are a number of films that I've run into that are like this. I will of course pass your frustrations along to our developers.

My guess is that with the new changes to film detail page addresses that a movie whose name is a number is NOT able to be accessed because the function is expecting a string of characters in order to search the database and return the correct film detail page. My theory could be way off, but in any case I can't open it either if it makes you feel any better. I'm sure they'll fix it soon though. :)

My guess is that with the new changes to film detail page addresses that a movie whose name is a number is NOT able to be accessed because the function is expecting a string of characters in order to search the database and return the correct film detail page. My theory could be way off, but in any case I can't open it either if it makes you feel any better. I'm sure they'll fix it soon though. :)

I am experiencing two different bugs or errors on Spout currently

1. Whenever I visit a movie page, I get this error message in a window that pops up.

"div with id:modalTypeAheadContainer already exists"

After I close the window everything seems to work fine, but it's annoying obviously. I am using Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP if that helps.

2. When you are viewing a discussion in a group, if there are multiple pages for the discussion there are links at the bottom of the screen to go to the different pages. These links are not working.

Thanks for reporting those, I told the dev team about them, so hopefully they will be on that soon. Let us know if you see anything else. We are in the middle of pushing out a bunch of new development and so the site is kind of buggy. Every bug you report is helpful!

The dev team says to refresh your cache and the first issue will go away. They are looking into the second issue.
