No, I have not seen or heard of that film but from the pics and the promo it looks pretty disgusting. I will watch it if I get the chance. I must say though that the type of procedure described would be an absolute medical impossibility. Just my opinion as a "Doctor".

Ok, I just watched Black Christmas, which isn't a bad movie, and it reminded me of the one thing that makes me cringe, eye gouging. I have seen many horror movies and have laughed at most of them, but whenever someone pulls an eye out, especially if they then eat it, I cringe. Don't know why, but there you are.

I think the two different horror related I usually think of are terror and discomfort.

Terror such as that I felt when I watched Witches (Roald Dahl adaption) and Jumanji as a child.

Then discomfort as when I recently watched Saw III with a friend and found myself in a mixture of distress and awe at a man having his limbs twisted.

I can’t remember clearly the last time I found myself sutured into a horror enough to be engaged in fear. I remember being younger and being petrified of Chucky but I am unsure if it was terror of discomfort of the gore.

The Ted Bundy film shocked me and definitely made me feel discomfort though I couldn’t say it terrified me. I suppose that’s beside the point as it’s not a horror.

I guess that I cannot remember the last time I sat down and watched a horror film. Though I have just purchased Army of Darkness after loving Sam Raimi’s Quick and the Dead. I think it's because when people use film as an escape device or drug (no negative connotations implied) the horror genre is not something that I can like, the thrill is not something I enjoy as I remember getting very uneasy as a child.

Not to go all classical on you, but when Bergman died, I was thinking about his movies, and I hope I never see anything more disturbing than the deathbed scene in Cries and Whispers, which was a lot like something I went through once.

That 'Chopping Off Of The Eye' thing in "HOSTEL" was pretty over the top... that almost made ME gag! But the thing I liked best about that movie, was the whole 'revenge' thing at the end... THAT was SWEET! When he plowed over those whores with his rental car... and then backs up to do it again... now THAT is SWEET!

for me the grossest thing i think i've ever seen was the guy w/ the torch to the lil asian chick's face in Hostel and the after effects when dude has to cit her eyeball off.

And the scene in Cigarette Burns when Udo Kier pulls his own intestines out and loops them on the film projector and starts it up.

The ONE thing I DIDN"T like about "The Devil's Rejects" was the use of my FAVORITE song, 'Freebird', at the end.... other than that, this movie ROCKED!

The ending was one of the best part and Freebird fit the scene perfectly! it is also one of my fave songs! the devils rejects is my fave movie! house of 1000 corpes was awsome too, like the part where chris hardwick get scalped was classic! otis and baby were my fave charactors, anf of course capt, Spalding is up there to!!!!!!!!

Elephant, the Gus Van Sant Columbine movie.

this is not about everyday scenes but it talks about what goes behind young peoples minds before a a school massacre happens;OR how things truly start out ;about things that have nothing to do about high school massacre and yet ends out that way: a couple of movies i recommend is:

Bang, Bang, You're Dead (2002) it stars my fave actors ben foster and tom cavanaugh-its about a bullied kid with a troubled past in school(namely a fake bomb threat),so when another threat in school is rumored ,it is unfortunately blamed on him;But a teacher who is willing to give him the benefit of a doubt trusts that he did not do this rumored forthcoming shootings;So armed with a videocamera and given main role in a stage play by the same teacher ,it is r revealed what is behind the rumors and what other ugly things that roam behind the schoolgrounds;i believed this is based on a true story and this story has been performed as a play all across the U.S. I HIGHLY ,highly recommend this film above any other high school movies that deal about shootings and teen problems;Its an underrated showtime tv movie which deserves a second look!!

State's Evidence-(2006) a good movie that starts as a plan to videotape a single suicide by a bored-middle class-intellectual -well cared for teen that ends out end out nothing like intentionally planned ;This is a great movie that my friends and family liked ;it has a great story with an ending twist;Not quite as good as bang, bang, your dead but good enough.

For sure it was the rape scene in the new "Hills Have Eyes." I thought it was pretty sick up to that point already, but that scene made me want to walk out of the theater. It wasn't even disturbing in an entertaining way, it was just straight-up nasty. One of the multitude of reasons I hate that movie.

this is not really a horror movie but a twisted lonely gang of singapore teen movie called

'15'-(2002)one scene when a suicidal teen loner sits on a toilet trying his hardest to swallow a bunch of pills enclosed inside a condom;it seemed to me like a long scene the way they zoom on the boy attempting to swallow that thing,u can see him gagging,saliva dripping ,and his nose dripping,eyes in tears;(reminds me of that close-up of that scared girl in blair witch project in front of the camera minus the drugs)makes u feel like gagging yourself;Another scene is a boy in the bathroom showing how he cuts himself in the arm multiple times;Then there were 2 scenes in which a boy pierces his close-friend/gang member lower cheeks;U see the actual cheeks being pierced with the blood coming out;it seemed almost real/documentary like it was really happenning and they are not acting.:I read a review that real street kids were hired in the making of this movie(http://onfilm.chicagoreader.com/movies/capsules/27042_FIFTEEN_TAN):also read that it was banned from country of origin until 20 scenes was censored and it finally got an r rating;I wonder what many more disturbing scenes would there be in this movie if i saw that completely uncensored banned one???

i would like for anyone else to see this movie and tell me what they think???

Yes, Dead Alive was a really good movie, but I something about puss and goo makes me shutter. Now Devil's Rejects was a pretty disturbing movie. Otis was one sick puppy. The man's face as a mask was funny in a horrible sick way especially how he came through the door and they were all laughing like it was just a funny halloween prank. It was pretty tragic, I was really rooting for the woman to make it...

I thought dead alive was a good movie it was a little weird though and funny the best scene that grossed me out was in devils rejects when they used the guys face as a mask and they laughed about it. what was gross about it was the otis and baby's sick humor.

Okay, I just got Dead Alive sent to me from Netflix, now I THOUGHT I had seen it before, but I couldn't remember...OH MY GOD, NOW I REMEMBER. This was the movie I was trying to think of when his mother lost her ear in the soup and ate it. Um, yuuuuucccckkkk, this was such a gross movie, now it was funny as hell, but it was soooo gross. Now, I had no problems with Zombie, I Spit on your Grave or just about any other slasher movie. But blood and puss and gooey body parts, eeeewwwwww, I just can't take it. whew. Anyway, the little rat monkey made me laugh as well as the mutated baby, but I remembered the rest of it so I just watched it all again in very fast motion. I think the the most disgusting part (and I usually don't get disgusted very much) is the eating soup scene for me.

Those are all really good ones Joem. I was a little freaked out by flying saucer movies because my cousin was such a believer and would tell me bullshit stories about how they loved little girls and when I would fall asleep at night they would come and take out my liver and other parts of my insides and I wouldn't know anything about it until I needed them for something...he was really EVIL. lol. So when I saw Invaders from Mars (the 1950s version) it brought a lot of that back and I would check my sandbox out in the backyard for holes and of course CAT POO. hee hee. But I was scared too. I wasn't so scared of the movie THEM. I thought that was pretty funny, I tried to pour different chemicals on the ants outside to make them grow bigger, but it never worked. I have NO idea why I wanted huge ants - I told you I was a weird little girl. I think it was because of my Damn cousin. lol. Of course now he's about 48 and living in India trying to find his spiritual self and working at a computer company training people from India how to sound more "American"...

Thinking about disturbing movies, the most disturbing to me haven't been horror movies. Don't know if mentioning some of them is off-topic for this group, but...

As a kid I watched Invaders from Mars. Flying saucer comes down, buries itself in the sand, starts sucking down folks and drilling them in the back of the neck, the hero's parents included. The hero was my age and the place the saucer went under the sand looked a lot like the area out beyond my backyard. This was back when flying saucers were practically landing daily, to hear the farmers tell it. I kept an eye on my parents and didn't walk on any sand.

Couple years later, it was Them. Got home and when it got dark, the leafless pecan trees out back looked an awful lot like giant ants.

More recently: Happiness (when the father, Dylan Baker, talks to his young son about abusing his friend); Elephant, the Gus Van Sant Columbine movie.

I thought of Elephant last night while watching Bobby - both movies present a number of ordinary people having a more or less ordinary day, with a transformitive event about to occur. In the case of Elephant, the ordinary people are high-school students who are about to be shot. That one stayed with me for a while.

Oh Man, the August Underground Series sound MAJORLY extreme. Very original, I don't think I've seen any movies with that description you gave before. lol. That is pretty graphic and I thought Hostel was disgusting, looks like I haven't seen anything yet. whew. Thanks for letting us know about it, so if any of my friends try to tell me they found some sweet films about the month of August...I will just say no. hee hee.

While all of the suggested films sound sick and disturbing for sure, I doubt any of them can beat the current king, the August Underground series. These films are pseudo snuff with very limited storylines shoot on poor quality video to look authentic. The special effects are amazingly realistic and the acts themselves are just sick. In one scene the killer rips open a woman's stomach and then pulls out her unborn child, in another the killers make their victim sever his own penis in order to save his girlfriends life with small scissors, they then take the penis and use it to rape his girlfriend ! In another scene one of the killers gutts a victim, only to have intercourse with her open stomach ! I can't stress how graphically all of this is shown and how realistically, its' basically gore porno and as close to real snuff as we are ever likely to get.

It's all extreme nastiness and not something I'd like to watch on repeat viewings, it makes stuff like Hostel look like a disnyeland ride !

i just saw "I spit on your grave" for the first time and the rape scenes were very disturbing, and i do not find any thing disturbing. i heard that there was a sequel to that movie and i really want to see it, it's take place years later and Jennifers daughter is involve or something to that effect! " I spit on your grave" although a cheesy B film, was worth the $20 that i spent on it!! and if any horror/gore havent seen it they should!

Okay, I now need to add a few scene's from Pan's Labrynth - I think what is most disturbing is to know that there were and ARE people who are actually as brutal and violent as this little girl's step father (he was also commander of the Garrison (or whatever you call it). Anyway, there was this one part where he doesn't believe these two men were rabbit hunting so he grabs this elderly man's grown up son and starts hitting his face with some kind of ice pick or pointy weapon over and over extremely brutally to where you can see the bones in this guys face - he does this right in front of his father, then shoots the father and shoots the son just to make sure he is dead. THEN he goes through their bag and finds a couple of rabbits...ugh. Then he tells one of the officers that if they did a better job checking he would not need to be bothered with things like that. Anyway there were a few parts that were just really disturbing and sad.

Ok. So this morning I hopped on Spout and remembered this discussion. Then, I remembered two scenes from a particular movie called A History of Violence that were quite ... uncomfortable. I know this is not a horror movie, more action/suspense/oh-dear-lord-why-did-he-do-that?! kind of movie. But the first scene that was VERY uncomfortable for me was the first ... uh ... intamacy scene with Sir Viggo and his wife. I'll just mention a cheerleader outfit and you might get what I'm alluding to. Yes, that scene certainly was uncomfortable considering I was watching the movie with a GUY friend of mine. During, we kind of looked at each other like, "Wha ... what's going on? WHY is it going on?"

Then, the later scene of similar nature on the stairs, was quite perplexing and twice as uncomfortable. Again, my guy friend and I just kind of looked at each other and laughed nervously, unsure of what to say, but both very disturbed, so to speak. When the movie was over, I think we sat for a minute and then talked at the same time, myself saying, "Well, I need to head to bed ..." and he saying, "Well, I gotta get home ..." Suffice it to say, we didn't hang out for a while after that.

Oh yeah, that scene in Funny Games is brilliant. Especially the bit with the remote control. This scene takes the idea of what it means to be helpless as movie watcher was far as possible.

Disturbing/Discomforting scenes:

1) End scene of Audition - very well done, quite difficult to watch.

2) Rape scene and head beating scene in Irreversible: very realistic and difficult to watch.

3) Tied-up animals fighting to the death in Cannibal Ferox: This scene is hard to watch because it is real. No tricks or special effects. The director ended up getting arrested after making this movie.

4) Living room scene in Funny Games: very well done film, very realistic scene.

Since we were speaking about Asian Scary Movies again, I just watched a really good film from Taiwan called Shutter. Of course it's the typical ghost story of a person who was horribly wronged and wanted revenge, flowing long black hair, pastey white face, etc. It was pretty good, I jumped several times. So if anyone doesn't mind subtitles and like a good little scare, this is a fun spooky movie.

I had also seen another good Japanese horror film called Bushinsaba (Witchboard), it was a pretty good movie too. It did remind me of the grudge a little bit, but it was a very good movie. Lots of goosebumps several times.

I was jeeeeest about to say that, that it's part of a two-fer with the spec. ed.s, but I was going to keep my lips sewn shut, considering your repulsion from and aversion to the shortened version in the film itself. Yes. I believe the full version of "Dumplings" is included in the special edition DVD. I noticed it the other day. But, rest assured, it will stay in its case as I have no intention of watching it.

Oh yes...that absolutely unspeakable story was one of the most arresting and, well, disturbing and discomforting scenes in anything I've ever watched. ... It goes against nature and life itself.

Which is why I'm all about the Asian horror. :) Froggy, there's a full-length version of Dumplings out there, not that it redeems the 3 Extremes version. In some ways it makes it worse.

Hi all...this is my FIRST post here, i am getting my feel of the place (this may take a while) ;-(...lol

I have 2 comments..i saw a most disturbing movie last week..i think it was called "Ireversable" it was sub-titled & it had the most realistic violent scenes & a rape scene that made me ill..i mean WHY would someone go to so much trouble to make something SO REAL? man, people are really sick. I only watched about 5 minutes of it, but it was like a bad car crash..you just HAVE to look..(kwim).

ok. second comment..i am LOOKING for the name of a movie i saw yrs ago..its about a family that live in a ranch style home & there is a mad man stalking them b/c he thinks there is some kind of "treasure" buried on thier land...one part that kinda freaked me out was the daughter ( who reminds me of marsha brady) was woken up by the moms sewing dummy...does this sound familiar to anyone?? ok.....im gonna do some more reading..C ya later~~

Oh yes...that absolutely unspeakable story was one of the most arresting and, well, disturbing and discomforting scenes in anything I've ever watched. Along the lines, exactly in that vein, is Takashi Miike's Imprint. Few things are more depraved and perversely wicked than films involving fetuses and the attendant placenta, blood and sundry other bodily fluids. Cooking the farrago of human substances into dumplings and consuming them is wholly repellant, no different than cannibalism. It goes against nature and life itself.

Speaking somewhat of Asian Cinema, I began to watch 3 Extremes the other day. I think the whole 8-hour long FETUS-EATING story tops my list, just under rape scenes. And it hits a little too close to home for me... Not that I eat dead babies but... yeah. Nevermind. Long story short, I had to stop watching and have not gone back since. I'm told the following two stories are better, but I just look at the cover of the DVD and want to vomit/cry.

I Spit On Your Grave - just in case you are one of the world's 2 people who were not disturbed by the rape scene, the bathtub scene later on in the film is capable of ensuring that nobody leaves this film without being in pain.

Dario Argento's Phenomena - towards the end of this film is a sequence of Jennifer Connelly swimming in a pool of decomposed corpses and maggots that is extremely difficult to watch.

You hit it right on the money about Audition. I was the same way, I knew about it and I thought I was prepared, I was just going on with the story and then BAM. Oh my god, I had also let my guard down. whew. I think it's going to be a while before I watch it again. But it was a really good movie, just disturbing, big time...

The thing that impresses me about that movie to no end is how it sneaks up on you. I knew it was a horror film going in. I knew it got really nasty. So on the one hand I was prepared for it. But then the movie started, and it drew me into the story. Before I knew it, and without even realizing it, I had let down my guard. Big mistake. All credit to Miike for that kind of skill.

Hey, to each his own, Doc! I'd be the first guy to admit that Japanese horror isn't for everyone. All your info about Audition is right on the money. The man responsible is Takashi Miike (or "the master," as some of us call him). Toward the end it gets a little surreal, so it's not straight-ahead horror by any stretch. When you do screen it you'll have to give me a shout and let me know what you thought.

I've heard good things about Stacy. It's on my pile of movies to watch -- eventually.

Don't get me wrong! SOME Asian Movies were EXCELLENT! ANYTHING with Bruce Lee or Sonny Chiba was AWSOME for Hong Kong or Japan! ... respectively.... But, other than that.... I am afraid that the 'Asian Cinema' is 'lacking'.... It is hard to describe and part of it is I do not like Reading 'sub-titles'... they are just difficult to watch! ...

I don't know what it is but I really like Japanese Scary Movies, just the ones that I have seen anyway. I thought The Two Sisters was very well made and had a good story line, I enjoyed Ringu 1 and 2, and Juon 1 & 2, so I'm probably a little touched in the head and that's why I like them. I think it all stems back from watching Godzilla movies when I was a very little kid, maybe 5 or 6 years old and Giant Robot, I used to LOVE Giant Robot with little Johnny Sako (this was a movie and television series about a little boy that could control a Giant Robot with his wristwatch controller, of course he would fight huge monsters and save Japan from destruction). Anyway, that must be why I Like Japanese Horror so much. I have also seen a couple of Chinese Cheesey horror movies that I liked...the film quality was really bad but it was a bit spooky and it was interesting to see some of the old folk stories come to life, One was Chinese Ghost story and there was another one that I can't think of right now.

Okay so I had this whole spiel written on the type of scene that is most disturbing to me and my computer exploded and I lost it. So, let's try this again. To me, rape scenes are the most unsettling of movie scenes, no matter if they are in horror movies or not. Sometimes, this type of scene adds to a movie's story or is part of the story, such as the scene in the basement of the pawn shop in Pulp Fiction. I'm sure most of you are familiar with this scene between Zed and Marcellis (sp?), so I won't get into it. But this particular scene is somewhat vital to the story of The Watch portion of the movie, so I can see why Terrantino had it in. Another of said scenes that I can understand being in a movie is the scene in A Clockwork Orange with the lady in red. In this particular instance, a rape scene was needed 1) because it established what a wicked little crapface Alex was, 2) because it was in the book and 3) because the incident would be brought up later in the film's story. A lot of the time though, when I see a rape scene, I wonder: was that necessary? Did I need to see that? The answer is usually no. But that's just me. After that rant, I can't really remember any specific scenes, besides these two, that disturbed me in horror movies. I'll be back though!

However, as I have said before, I would NOT recommend this movie to ANYONE!    I recommended this movie to Robert (Phantasma-gore-ia) a while back and HE was thoroughly disgusted by it!    (you can read Robert's thoughts on this on his website!)
    This is a German made film from 1988 and the correct spelling is "Nekromantik"    ...    Now, before any of you purchase this film out of curiosity, just remember that I did NOT recommend it! (I do not want to get sued!)
    Personally, I enjoyed this movie simply because I had never seen anything like it before and also because I could tell my friends that I have the 'sickest' movie ever made and it was fun to invite them over to watch it and then I could watch them get 'grossed-out'! I most definitely agree with the syringe scene in saw 2 , I have been dating my girlfriend now for about 5 years and I have made her sit through some really disturbing stuff , all of which she usually replies to how can you watch this and why are you laughing, or she storms out of the room and comes back with some horrendous chick flick like the breakup and says cant we watch this instead. Saw 2 however surprised her because she did actually see me squirm and ask is it over yet. I am deathy afraid of syringes and that scene went completely over the top with me . Another very disturbing scene I have witnessed recently was a scene in timo rose's barricade. Basically what happens is a womans breast gets completely dismembered bit by bit it was quite disturbing and again that doesnt happen often with me

in this film there's a scene in which the antagonist is drowning a girl in an outhouse full of feces, urine, and leeches (nothing that I know for sure, that's just what the girl being drowned said). that scene is the only scene in any horror film that has left a lasting impression on me. this is probably because i puked.

Those are all really good examples. I do think when I first saw the Wizard of Oz that those parts were spooky to me. I think the Haunted Forest made me put a blanket over my head and the part where the fake Wizard shows himself. My mom said that after I had seen the movie, I asked her if I could have a flying monkey so he could fly all over the place and bring me things...hee hee. So they might have scared me at first but the more I thought about it, the more I thought they could be useful.

I totally forgot about that part in Night of the Living Dead when the daughter becomes a little zombie. That was so sad, I think I am going to watch that today since it's been so long since I've seen it just to refresh my memory. I still love the beginning of that movie...

Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer haunted me for a long time, that has been one of the only movies where I have actually left the room and just kept coming back in while my ex husband was watching it. I guess because it was so realistic that I could see it really happening and to know there are people out there that get their kicks from doing something like that. It was just a little too much for me.

Wrong Turn was another one of those movies that just had some really gross scenes in it, I can't remember a specific scene right now but I know there were a few.

Oh yes, and in The Fly with Jeff Goldblum when he is arm wrestling and breaks the other guys arm and the bone is sticking out. THat was HORRIBLE, ugh. I hate movies where bones break and they are sticking out of the skin. Now that really gives me the shivers. There were a few other things in the Fly that made me cover my face and peek through my fingers.

"The Wizard Of OZ" : I am not kidding! The 'flying monkeys'! The 'Wicked Witch' throwing a 'fireball' at 'The Scarecrow'! ("... if I only had a brain...") The 'WIZARD' HIMSELF! The 'MUNCHKINS' !!! (wtf was up with THEM?!?!?)

"Night Of The Living Dead" : A little 'zombie-girl' kills, and then EATS her Mother (!) in fairly graphic detail!

"Psycho" : I opted to take a bath instead of a shower for YEARS (!) after I first saw this movie at the age of 7 or 8!

"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" : This whole MOVIE is disturbing on so many levels! ... And, while I am on that subject, I feel I MUST mention ...

"Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer" : *see above!

I know that Crimewave wasn't a scary movie, but it was very cute. Although the one Pest Control guy kind of gave me the creeps when he just wouldn't give up...but it was funny.

There aren't a lot of things that really freak me out or scare me too much in horror movies any more. That scene in Wishmaster was really something, ugh, I did get a little sick to my stomach while watching it.

I can't handle vomit either. If I see that someone is going to hurl I HAVE to close my eyes big time or I just feel it rising in my throat. ick.

I remember the first time I saw Nightmare on Elm Street there were several parts that really creeped me out. But I can't remember what they were. Of course now I watch it I just think it's so funny...

In Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer, it really disturbed me when they broke into that couples house and did those things in front of the husband while he was tied up, and everything else that happened etc. I was married at that time and thought how horrible that would be. It bothered me for quite a while, of course now that I'm a little jaded after my divorce, it probably won't bother me as bad - lol.

There was another time I got really antsy and couldn't hardly stand to watch it in some of the chase scenes in Jeepers Creepers. I was literally about ready to run out of the theater because I had so much angst. But I also realized it was PMS time (sorry guys - but it's so friggin true - a little too emotional sometimes) and have decided NEVER to watch any high anxiety movies around that time. Just hilarious. I love both of those movies, just cracks me up.

There was this other movie I saw that just grossed me out to no end and it looked SOOOO fake but it still made me sick. I think it was Ed and His Dead Mother, where her ear and nose and other body parts were falling off or something like that, I don't know what it was but I had to fast forward through it...I did the same thing with Hostel, I had to fast forward through a lot of scenes there too. Now that gore was VERY realistic.

I probably have a million others too that I just can't think of tonight. But those are some that just come to mind. Things don't usually make me sick because I took a lot of film appreciation classes in college so I like to think about the editing and how they did certain things. It really fascinates me how creative a lot of movies are these days. They have to come up with new and different death scenes all the time (that's why I really loved Ghost Ship as I've said a million times).

The Most 'Disturbing' things I have ever seen on film... hmmm .... I guess I should start at the beginning...

"The Exorcist" : I was 13 years old when I first saw Linda Blair plunging the metal crucifix into her bloody and mutilated vagina, over and over, and THEN shoving her mothers face into her crotch while yelling "Lick Me! Lick Me, You Bitch!" ...

"Last House On The Left" : The ENTIRE scene from where the car breaks down and they take the girls out into the woods until BOTH of the girls are dead and they clean all the blood off of themselves in the stream!

"Deliverance" : Homosexuall Rape Scene! 'Nuff Said!

"Cannibal Holocaust" : What disturbed ME most about this movie was NOT the extreme Blood and Gore, OR the 'real life' animal (and HUMAN) butchery (!) BUT, the RAPE scene! That was nasty! When two members of the film crew capture and brutally rape a young Indio girl! THAT is some sick shit, right there!

Just that. In horror-dom, there seems to be this mandatory bravura, this stolid attitude of "that wasn't scary" or "that was lame." I believe, however, if you can find the chinks in this armor, you can pry the plates apart and find what really gets beneath someone's skin, what really scares them. Case in point: in Saw II, one of the most squirm-inducing sequences for a lot of viewers, despite the brutal violence and gushing gore was the infamous needle pit that Xavier so courteously treated Amanda to. A lot of people simply were taken to the edge by that scene, deeply affected. I, on the other hand, didn't bat an eyelash.

Now, I get through horror in part because I know it's not real (save those tasteless Italians...) and that, moreover, I know how they do it. There is one thing - only one - that puts me in my place and makes me realize I'm not invulnerable to the horrors of Horror. An instance in Dead Men Walking speaks to this end and in fact lays out my feelings perfectly while also serving as a gruesome example:

0:35:40. It’s time I come clean about something here: I can take just about bloody (ahem) anything in horror films, but I’ll have to face that when it comes to crap being puked up, thrown up, chucked up, what have you, my stomach starts to loosen and it takes will power to keep it down. Mostly I’m O.K., but if I already am sick (with flu, not a biotoxin) or I’ve just eaten a big meal, the case becomes stronger to stop from hurling myself. Now, on with the gore. The other two of the infected trio earlier barf blood all over their escorts while a third (and this is where it gets really disgusting) is foaming up with a pinkish mixture of some unholy slime that oozes down his face like lava from a science fair volcano. Eventually, everybody in the mess hall, as it were, is puking blood all over everyone else, the entire affair one absolutely stomach-turning episode of ungodly sickness. SR: SSSSS

I have always been gastrointestinally uneasy and when I see notable scenes like the one I'm thinking about as the subject of this particular post, it leaves me a bit uneasy. It is in City of Living Dead and it is a spot that seared itself in my memory forever. Giallo and general Italian horror fans, based on what I've already said, will know exactly what it is, but for everyone's edification (or vile enjoyment) I'll reproduce here how I said it on my site:

“THE BODY PURGING” 0:31:30. A girl’s eyes start to bleed…then it gets really sick. She starts to foam at

the mouth as if rabid, the foam quickly turning red and then into strange things: intestines – yards and yards

of them – and then organs of several shapes, sizes and colors. In time, the girl vomits up her innards while

the specter of the suicidal priest stares her down. After the body purging, a hand reaches into the boy’s hair

and grabs out a chunk of his brains, leaving a grapefruit-sized hole. SR: ããããã

Nothing I have ever seen that does not involve projectile or otherwise unusual puking has prompted a physical reponse like this. A third and final moment in this vein (ahem) in my grim horror-watching career comes from Wishmaster 3:

0:54:12. Don’t eat prior to watching this scene, I really mean it. Anne befriends the Djinn, tragically unaware

of course of who he really is. She wished earlier to lose some weight. If you know anything about the

series, it’s that the Djinn always grants wishes, but never in the manners intended. Anne indeed loses

weight, a la City of the Living Dead. Her nose and areas around her mouth start to bleed, events that the

Djinn describes as “a little liposuction.” As she starts to spit up a liquid, molten mixture of fat and blood, the

Djinn goes on about how she always considered her stomach a problem area. In a few seconds that too is

on the floor and the waxy substance she’d been spitting up for a while continues. As Diana steadfastly

refuses to make her wishes, aware of the repercussions if she did, Anne continues to waste away, her entire

body’s worth of fat shriveling up, her skin taking on a gruesome new complexion. Eventually the Djinn talks

her into wishing for him to relieve her of the pain, naturally intending for the process to be reversed. Instantly,
