It was nothing like, I Spit on Your Grave. Now that was pretty brutal in so many aspects.

If you haven't already done so, June, you should check out the "director's cut" version of Last House which came out a few years ago. A couple extra scenes of gore and brutallity make for a much more graphic and brutal and disturbing movie. Obviously there is a movie making trick that is as old as time that involves setting up a disturbing gore or violence scene and then cutting away at the last second and letting the sound effects and the viewers imagination to fill in the gruesome details. Every great horror film is guilty of this to some degree. Hitchcock did this masterfuly with Psycho and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre has virtually NO on screen gore at all! Yet some people remember this as one of the "goriest" movies ever made! I think the decision to NOT show the gore scenes in these movies is more budgetary than artistic. (In spite of what Hitchcock said about this!). Realistic gore effects cost money and TIME... Something that a lot of producers are not willing to spend. Try to imagine if Lucio Fulci had directed Last House or Psycho or TCM ... they would have been very different movies.

I think your comparison of I Spit on your Grave to Last House is very profound. They are very similar movies. Brutallity, rape and revenge. BOTH movies feature a rather "graphic" penis-removal scene in which you don't actually SEE the penis but you know full well what is going on. (Try Cannibal Ferox for a TRULY GRAPHIC depiction of this... nobody does it like the Italians.) . I think that Last House was more brutal than I Spit on Your Grave in this particular scene. All in all, I like both movies equally well.

I would like to recomend another movie in the "rape-and-revenge" catagory called Ms..45 ... a lot of fun...

I saw on the previews that they found her and wrapped her up in a blanket but I didn't know if she lived or not. That's very interesting, I wonder if there was an outcry after the first one because she died so he decided to make her live in this one...or it almost seems that his conscience got the best of him, since this was one of his first films, and somehow he wanted to make it right...hmmmm. The penis chomping scene was great, I bet every guy in the theater watching it back then had to grimace. hee hee. It does make me wonder in this day and age where MOST horror movies usually have very unhappy endings (especially all the zombie movies) why he did let her live. Personally, I like happy endings. I wish Rhodes wouldn't have been eaten, but then we wouldn't had his famous last lines of CHOKE on it.. But with a lot of movies now, I expect it to have a twist or sad ending, so it's not so shocking for me anymore.

You know, honestly, I didn't think the first one was that brutal, now in my mind it was brutal but on the screen they really didn't show that much, but of course, you knew what was happening. It really was cool. I wish they would make more movies in 3D, it just really made you feel like you were in the movie. They changed the story around a bit but all in all it was pretty good. They did have a few cheesey 3D effects where they had some things pop out at you, but it wasn't too bad. It's definately a great movie if you have a date or if you just have a group of crazy friends.

It seemed like in the first movie, that briefly you got to know each character in a way, and you either really liked them and it upset you when they died or you were kind of wishing they would get hacked up. Does anyone know?) is The Unborn, that looks pretty spooky. I am going to have to check out the lists...
Re:My Bloody Valentine Remakehttp://www.spout.com/groups/HORROR_MOVIES_101/Re_My_Bloody_Valentine_Remake/222/39021/1/ShowPost.aspxThu, 01 Jan 2009 22:02:54 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:39021Macabre_FilmNut15

Dr_Gor:

divinemsjunebug:

Has anyone seen the trailer for this? You know I'm not much for remakes but this actually looks pretty fun because they've made it in 3D. I really liked the original movie, it's not very well known but it was pretty good. Anyone have any opinion on the old movie or the new one?

This new version looks like it will be pretty cool. The original was a very good low-budget Canadian horror film that caught on to the "slasher/horror" craze of the early 1980's but with an interesting twist, the killer was a Miner! NOT a 'minor', the killer in this movie is someone over 18 years old who works (or WORKED) in a mine ... Of course this leads to some rather creative and inventive and gruesome ways to dispatch a person... I liked this movie a lot back in the day and I still like it a lot today. Of course this instantly reminded me of another "cult-horror-jump-on-the-bandwagon-holliday-slasher-flick" called April Fools Day . This one was recently remade and I have yet to see that one as well.

Back to the remake version of My Bloody Valentine , This movie looks promising to me mostly because I would like to check out this new 3-D technology that everybody has been ranting and raving about... my curiosity is piqued...

                                                                        < GOR >

I usally never go to the movies lately, becasue where I live anything that hits the theaters is plain awful! I got talked into seeing Saw 5, which I hated. They showed the previews to My bloody Valentine 3-D and my curiosity got the best of me. I know if it comes up here I will go and see it!!

As for April Fools, I didnt see it, I have a hard time with remakes. I was on BD Horror and they had there list of worst horror films of 2008 and April Fools was number 1.
