Let the Right One In starts playing in Philly next week, and I can't wait to see this movie. I've heard nothing but raves. I can only hope that high expectations don't ruin it for me:p

As for foreign remakes where folks don't know about the originals that aren't Asian, I believe the recent Quarantine was a remake of the Spanish film Rec.

This probably doesn't count, but half the kills from Mario Bava's Bay of Blood were appropriated for Friday the 13th (and I believe the initial sequel too). Bava's Planet of the Vampires also bears a striking resemblance to the original Alien in terms of basic plot (though I think Alien is by far the superior film). Neither of those really counts, but it's interesting when you find these original influential movies.

I couldn't agree more! I just finished watching this film and it was fantastic. It is a very art house type of horror film so if you're not into that then you might not appreciate it's brilliance. This is without a doubt the best vampire film I have seen in a very long time. I highly doubt that the american remake will capture the same elements that this film was able to and present them in such a fantastic way.

This film was really hyped up alot and it more than lived up to it in my mind. See this movie as soon as you can!

I will watch any vampire movie and thanks to you this one has got me very interested, and in doing some reasearch it sounds like a great movie. But i can't find it anywhere, my local Best Buy nor Circut City seem to have it. Do I need to order this on-line or is there some store that would have this?

I put it on my Netflix Queue, it was pretty top rated on there too.

Speaking of movies that are remade: You know, we talk a lot about Japanese horror that has been remade here in the US but what about horror from different countries that have been remade. Sometimes I'm shocked to see a movie that I think is original and see the "Real" original from Germany or Sweden. Can anyone give any examples (that isn't Asian horror) of movies that we really wouldn't realize is a remake. One example for me, which isn't a movie, its a series, is The Kingdom - it was remade from Danish TV. I don't know if it was much better than the American series or not, but it wasn't too bad. Anyone know of any?

ALSO, what are some other movies that have come out this year (2008 or end of 2007) that you have thought were pretty awesome.
