I rented "Big Trouble in Little China" the other day on recommendation from some friends who claimed that it was "awesomely bad." I'm "ashamed" (read "not at all ashamed") to say that I really really liked it. Despite the fact that the script is completely awful (Kim Cattrall's character basically exists to spout exposition, and the thing is more chock-full of stereotypes than a fortune cookie at a Wok and Roll restaurant). It's the kind of weird adventure flick I could see myself loving as a little kid--aside from the numerous rotting corpses and colorful language, of course ; )

Aw man, I love all these movies, except for Shade. Haven't seen that. I wouldn't have considered any of these a GP. Maybe not cinematic genius, but not crap.

It's actually really funny...it's a terrible movie, but there are a few gut-bustingly hysterical moments that make enduring the bad parts worthwhile. Sort of the epitome of guilty pleasure.

2. Anchorman-It's actually my favorite movie, though I would never admit it. Hm...

3. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen-It's convoluted and almost unbearably strange, but I still love it.

4. Sniper-I watched this late night on AMC one night, and I'm sad to say that I was extremely entertained.

5. Zombie Strippers-Hah.

There's probably lots of others, but none come to mind right now...

Ooh, fun topic!

1. The Next Best Thing - Seriously, this is a bad movie... But there is something about Madonna and Rupert Everett that I just can't help but love! :)

2. Legally Blonde 1 & 2 - Reese Witherspoon is so charming, and she IS this movie - although it's a corny chick-flick.

3. Cruel Intentions - No comment. Although it is not a necessarily bad movie, I feel like I'm constantly over-rating it.

4. Mr. & Mrs. Smith - Obviously.

5. Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle - I can't help but like the angels!

I've actually been meaning to watch "Hackers" for a while. Jonny Lee Miller is, for me, the king of the guilty pleasure flick (see "Plunkett and Macleane"), although Robert Carlyle comes a close second, and "Aeon Flux" wasn't really a guilty pleasure so much as a rotting hunk of meat that I didn't even enjoy.

Hackers... there's pretty much nothing good about this movie, but I love it so much. I can't even really say why. I'll watch ten times in a row without getting sick of it, though.

Red Dawn... good times. But you know, I really really love it. Not in an "I think this falls into bad-movie-that-I-love" category, but for the 80s gem that it is. Wolverines forever!!!

Dude, I haven't heard Hackers mentioned since the day it came out. And I'm here to admit that I watched it on opening weekend. Why? Because it had the first full trailer for Goldeneye in front of it! Worth every penny!

Who doesn't have a soft spot in their heart for "Red Dawn?" I'm part of a movie polling group on myspace, and we're working our way through 80's movies at the moment. Anyway, I'm happy to see that in the battle between "Dirty Dancing" and "Red Dawn" that the two are tied. When you've got Swayze, you can pretty much be assured that your movie will be guilty pleasure GOLD.

Factory Girl.... everyone hates it, I dig it. Anything with Warhol's name on it, and I'm in.. and I feel like the film really got Warhol.

Hackers... there's pretty much nothing good about this movie, but I love it so much. I can't even really say why. I'll watch ten times in a row without getting sick of it, though.

Open Water... There's so much in this movie that I hate. Typical indie pointless close-ups (zoom in on keys turning!), pointless nudity, laugh-track worthy marital dialogue... but for some reason, as a whole, I really love this film.

Most Owen Wilson/Ben Stiller/That Crew In General movies... they've had some classics, sure (Zoolander, Dodgeball)... but I adore their crappy pictures just as much. Starsky and Hutch? Love it. Night at the Museum? Kept me entertained, thoroughly. Shanghai Noon? Ate it up. Wilson, or Stiller in a flick, and I'll love at least one aspect of it. Just keep Will Ferrell the hell away from it.

If you rounded up 10 guy friends and sat them down in front of the TV with beer and chips, and played Blood Sport for them, and asked them what they thought, was it pretty good or pretty bad, i guarantee that 9 out of 10 would say it was pretty good.

For one thing, they're all used to UFC now, and that was like UFC to the death, back in the day.

But anyway, a year after Blood Sport, VanDamme was back with Kickboxer, which was sort of the same movie and just as good, but with a bigger budget. (This was all pre-lump.) So if by some chance you haven't seen Kickboxer yet, you are in for a big treat.

That post gave me a good chuckle. Like I said, "Blood Sport" is my favorite bad movie. I could watch that thing fifty times and I would still find it awesomely bad. As Tmoney so accurately put it, sometimes a movie hits a point that is so bad, it becomes great. That is exactly what "Blood Sport" is to me.

but with Blood Sport I think there is a point where a movie is SOOO bad that it is no longer a guilty pleasure. There is a point of return for a film where it is beyond the point of bad that it all of the sudden becomes excellent. Maybe that is another list.

Yeah...that one's on my list, too. I used to not feel bad about liking it, but then I started watching good movies and reading reviews and I realized that maybe I ought to keep this one to myself.

My guilty pleasures:

1. A Knight's Tale

2. The Brothers Grimm-I know I've complained about this one being sub-par for Gilliam (it is) and that the writing sucks (it does) but goshdarnit, I have something of a soft spot for this movie. It might be the visuals, it might be that I get a kick out of watching Heath Ledger really getting into his role, I don't know. Whatever the reason, I watched it five times in the theater. Fortunately I was working there at the time, and so I didn't have to pay, but you get the idea.

3. Blood Sport-Has anyone seen this? AMC used to show this movie all the time. Anyway, the only reason I like it is because I think it's the best worst movie ever. Never let it be said that Jean Claude VanDamme can act. He can't. Man's as dumb as a post.

4. Plunkett and Macleane-This is a horrible movie. I knew it the first time I watched it. But for some reason I keep going back over and over, and enjoying myself. A true guilty pleasure.

5. Killer Klowns from Outer Space-B-movie goodness from beginning to end.

Hmmm, guilty pleasures, huh? Okay, hold your nose for mine because most of these were just hated by the general public.

1.I Love You To Death - I know it's not cool to enjoy someone being almost murdered over and over again, especially since it's a true story. But I can't help it, I laugh and laugh. Thought the cast was great.

2.Man in the Iron Mask - Two Leos are better than one. And those luscious costumes.

3.The Village - Again, I like the cast. And I was scared by the red hooded monsters. Though I admit the townspeople should have had New York accents.

4.The Time Machine - not my favorite movie, but maybe not as bad as the critics said.

5.Titanic - Did I mention I like Leo? *snicker* At least a few people liked this one!

Okay, now that I've obliterated my credibility as anyone's expert, I'll move on...

1. Blues Brothers--the pacing is so bad, some of the dialogue so stilted, but "On a mission from God," Jake and Elwood play some hot music--like Aretha Franklin singing in the restaurant.

2. Jagged Edge--This movie scared the xx**xx! out of me, yet it is tame by comparison to a lot of the modern stuff. When she found the typewriter and typed the unique key, you knew who the murder was, and I started to sweat.

3. Waterworld--Critics hated this but I found the action sequences gripping, the photography good, the idea interesting, and the woman gorgeous. (Someone else mentioned this great turkey as well.)

4. The Hand that Rocks the Cradle--I remember thinking that if any of my friends knew I was glued to the screen they'd think I'd lost my film sense.

5. Tristan and Isolde--Yes, there is one of the fakiest scenes I can remember (the sail boat headed for England on fast forward), and it is one of the classic, sweeping love stories, but so much quality went into this story--from the script writer to the director to the lead actress to the fight-scene specialists that Ridley Scott brought in--that it is a much more enjoyable movie that you'd think

As for rocky, I think it went downhill since rocky III, yet consider all of the rocky films since 2, except for 5, a guilty pleasure film.

weekend at bernies may be considered a nostalgic pleasure film. often classics, while they don't stand the test of time, remain favorites because of some connection we have with the film. Maybe we should start a top 5 nostalgic pleasures list!

My list is more guilty pleasures as actors, not films. I could probably make Top 5 lists out of each of these people and more... but here goes:

1. Sylvester Stallone: Rocky II, III & IV. I don't include the first because it's a great movie and I am not ashamed of liking it. I didn't include V because it's crap. And I haven't seen Rocky Balboa so I can't say one way or the other. Also Cop Land.

2. Arnold Schwarzenegger's 80s (and early 90s) catalog defines guilty pleasure over and over. I hate that I like Twins, Terminator, The Running Man, Total Recall, Predator. However, I will proudly say that I like T2. Now if only T3 had been watchable...

3. Keanu Reeves - Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure/Bogus Journey, Matrix: Reloaded/Revolutions (the first wasn't a guilty pleasure in my book), Point Break , Feeling Minnesota, My Own Private Idaho, The Devil's Advocate, The Watcher.

I could almost combine 4 - 5 and some of them probably aren't guilty pleasures so much but I'm listing them anyways. Take them for what you will.

4. John Candy - I can't help it. Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Nothing But Trouble, Canadian Bacon? Brilliant.

5. Dan Akroyd - Nothing But Trouble, Coneheads, Ghostbusters/Ghostbusters 2, Spies Like Us, Grosse Pointe Blank, Blues Brothers, Feeling Minnesota.

first, he sticks her with the basketball pump. then when she hits the floor, he kills her with the sharp side of a meter stick. or maybe it's just the meter stick in general, without looking at certain parts of the given meter stick. i'm not sure, i just know he kills her with the meter stick. sorry...i just had to point that out.

I think that was the first R rated movie I saw in the theater. Yeah it's a real fast and wild ride! Decapitation, pointless nudity, but all with a pretty big budget.

Silverado: watched it as a kid with my dad and I have loved cowboy movies ever since.

Sabrina: THE REMAKE no less.....I went on a fam vacation one time in 10th grade and this was one of the only movies that we brought along for some reason, I think my uncle was really into it at the time....when you have nothing else to do, why not fall in love with the pretty girl that is made up to look ugly at the begining and then **MIRACLE** she gets real hot by the end.... its really bad...but I love it. SIGH

Point Break: come on...."we'll get him when he comes back in......" "he's not coming back in..." **CRASH** goes the GI-NORMOUS wave....DEAD goes Patrick Swayze. Soooo funny.

Waterworld: I like sailboats??

Crash: SUPPOSEDLY, I am told that good film critics hate this movie. Whatever...I liked it. I bought it. From this website.

1. Necessary Roughness - Scott Bakula as the30 something cattle rancher that tries to relive his glory days by going to college. Add in Sinbad as a College Psychics Teacher / Vegetarian. The best of the best bad sports movies. Thanks to shop rite and it's $5.99 and it' Superbowl DVD special, I now own this baby.

Knights Tale? Long about the time "we will rock you" started playing over the jousting match, I got up and left. I liked the idea behind Running Man a lot; it was foreign back in the 80s. It was before everything became so voyeuristic (spelling bad).

Didn't we ALL read this book in the 80's? Not only was it an "all-star cast at it's worst", but this is the same man that directed Godfather I &II and The Conversation. I've heard this is one of his favorite films. Wow! Stay golden, Francis.

I am totally down with tmoney's picking The Burbs and The Lost Boys(they kind of define guilty pleasure, you can't really say they're great films, but they are fun to watch). I also love Point Break - if you take it for what it is, it is a very well made action movie with some crazy action sequences.

I'm not really embarrased to like any movie. I mean if I really like it, I'm proud to like it.

Although I love most of the Ernest movies, but I think I would feel weird watching them with some people. It's just so goofy.

And a lot of Anime, but that's usually more of the quirks that inhabit the anime series rather than most anime movies.

Point Break - Don't put me in a cage, Johnny Utah.
Notting Hill - Hugh gets the girl (Julia Roberts) and gets to run his book shop. I feel so happy.
Bull Durham - It now plays like a movie made for middle-aged, under-sexed women. But it's fun.
The Outsiders - An all-star cast at its worst. But still, Dallas Winston should be alive today if not for those damned cops.
Scary Movie 3 - It's just plain funny. Especially the Pamela Anderson part.

P.S. Tmoney, you should feel no guilt over loving Snakes on a Plane.

This is bound to be a fun topic.

5. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. It's an even number, but it's very hokey for the franchise, isn't it? Still, I like the humor (Spock is a work in progress) and the fact that saving the whales will save the world. I suppose I could say the same thing about liking any of the Star Treks. Except five. I don't like five.

4. Shirley Temple movies (My favorite is Bright Eyes). Ok, so, old, hokey, musical, but she was just so cute as a button, and there is something infectiously optimistic about some of those flicks.

3. Happy Gilmore - I don't like all of Sandler's movies, but this one is funny and cute and the best, even if it's not such a cinematic masterpiece.

2. Jumpin' Jack Flash - It's all so preposterous, but Whoopi is funny, she hooks up with the British guy, Jon Lovitz is an employee in the bank, and it revolves around my favorite Stones song.

1. All the Muppet movies - I love the Muppets and am not so embarrassed about it, even if I shold be too old. These are some of my favorites, though, esp The Muppet Movie and Muppets Take Manhattan. Maybe it's something about not wanting to lose my childhood.

Alright. Just admit 5 films you're almost embarrased to love so much.

5. The Burbs - Yes this is completely nostalgic, and it sucked, but I rented it the other day and still love it.
4.Casino Royal - I hate James Bond films, and everything they stand for, but I kind of liked this one.
3.Snakes on a Plane - I didn't have this much fun in a theater in a long time. Since Slither.
2.Garden State - Yeah it was sentimental. Yes it was sappy. But it had decent music, and It made me feel good.
1. The Lost Boys - Strange that there are two Cory Feldman films in this list. But I LOVE this film. Kiefer at his finest. And don't forget the grandpa mobile at the end. Everybody I show this too absolutely hate it. So it is a guilty pleasure.
