The writer and director would have a heck of a time getting that to work with live action; might have to do cartoon or animated.

My personal opinion is that games offer a goldmine of material for films, and I feel like the film industry has only touched the surface. I feel the only two games which have been great adaptations were the original Mortal Combat, and the as of recent Silent Hill. Both of these films melded together emotional elements which one would feel during the game and brought them to the film, but also allowing it to be broad and appreciated by a non-gaming audience. It's a tricky balance, but I feel in the future when we get more directors and writers who come from the gaming generation that we'll get some very interesting and inovative conversions.

Anyway, onto film ideas... a game based off of the Half Life series, particularly centered around the events in Half Life 2 would be outstanding, yet crazy dificult to pull off. First of all, having any narrative, dialogue - heck even facial gestures concerning the main character Gordon Freeman would ruin it, I feel. The game gives him no personality what so ever. He is a 'freeman' I supposed you could call him; nondescript in every way. Every player that plays HalfLife creates their own story and persona around him. If there was to be a Half-Life game, it would have to take place around another character in the story like the woman Alex Vance, her father Eli, or, better yet, the security guard turned rebel fighter Barney. He seems like a great every-man character that could be played by the plethora of male stars out there between 28 and 45. Ah man, so many possibilties with that franchies. Great opportunity for a director and writer to use their immaginations and story telling skills.

Another idea would be something off of the future sci-fi punk MMO game Anarchy Online. Theirs already a deep lore associated with it, even a mini animated series which seems to have been put on hold at the moment. The game takes place on the planet of Rubi-Ka... just the outstanding art direction and music alone make it a great game to delve into. It might also hand itself well to a mini-series format ala HBO's 'Rome.' Theirs just tons of drama, in-fighting, cool weaponry, some mysticism, large expanses of beautiful alien-like terrain, and tons of lore to back up on.

I could go on an on I know. Many of the final fantasy films could be turned into decent films, with I feel FF7 being the prime example since it has already been turned into a film (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, animated, by the same storywriters and animators who have done the series I think). It's an area of movie making that has huge potential, and you've heard it here if not anywhere else - I think it's where were going to see the future innovation come from.
Re:Top high school horror movieshttp://www.spout.com/groups/Top_5/Re_Top_high_school_horror_movies/190/36805/1/ShowPost.aspxThu, 30 Oct 2008 17:46:13 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:36805SkyPilot18
Thanks for the update!

Re:Top high school horror movieshttp://www.spout.com/groups/Top_5/Re_Top_high_school_horror_movies/190/36666/1/ShowPost.aspxSat, 25 Oct 2008 11:24:17 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:36666Kowalski7618

SkyPilot:

Kevin Kelly also posted his Top high school horror movies.

I still haven't seen Carrie. Only new games?

Instead of making new Star Wars movies and shows, LucasArts should revisit the story goldmines they created with Full Throttle, Maniac Mansion, etc.

That said, Braid sounds fascinating, like Super Mario with a more realistic dynamic between hero and princess.

Also, if Len Wiseman made the supremely entertaining Die Hard 4, I'd sure as heck see his Gears of War movie!

Does anyone remember Earthbound? What an inspired RPG. Today it seems almost prophetic--as a friend of mine observed, Ness is like the older brother of the boys on South Park. But as far as I know, it was never popular. When this amazing story-based game came out on the SNES, it was hard to get teens excited about using archaic fighting mechanics pulled from the Dragon Warrior game.

(Dragon Warrior is a good game, by the way. First RPG I ever played. I was 9 years old, and I didn't even know that games like my daydreams existed, until I met Dragon Warrior.)
Re:Games that should be movies and High School Horror flickshttp://www.spout.com/groups/Top_5/Re_Games_that_should_be_movies_and_High_School_Hor/190/36609/1/ShowPost.aspxThu, 23 Oct 2008 12:31:39 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:36609OptimusPrime5118
1. Balloon Fight for the NES, mostly because I think it would be impossible to come up with a plausible idea for why two people would put on wings and attach themselves to balloons only to try and fly higher than the other idiot dressed up like that so you can land on them and pop their balloons..... yep, that was the whole game, and man was it fun!

2. Battletoads with the sequel Battletoads meet Double Dragon.

3. James Bond Goldeneye, man what a sweet game! ......

4. okay, serious with this one. How about a Final Fantasy movie based on one of the games. I mean, they have over 20 games in the series if you count all the spin-offs, and I can think of at least 5 that could make really sweet movies. FF6 would be the one I would most want to see.

5. Uncharted Waters for the NES was a great game. Exploration on the high seas, battles with pirates, (or with merchants if you wanted to become a pirate yourself), custom ship designs, romance, and poker to boot.

6. Ogre Battle was sweet on the SNES, might be hard to make into a movie.

Okay, onto a cast for Final Fantasy 6...

Locke - Billy Crudup

Strago - Malcolm McDowell

Celes - Naomi Watts

Kefka - Paul Bettany

Cyan - Daniel Day-Lewis

Geshtahl - Christopher Lee

Terra - I think her name is Summer Glau, the new Terminator show girl.

Alright, I know there are more characters, but I've spent too much time coming up with good fits for these ones. Feel free to add to the cast if you like.
Re:Games that should be movies and High School Horror flickshttp://www.spout.com/groups/Top_5/Re_Games_that_should_be_movies_and_High_School_Hor/190/36607/1/ShowPost.aspxThu, 23 Oct 2008 11:31:11 GMTcdd0f780-13db-4d93-b0f4-ada579d02ae7:36607Kowalski7618

SkyPilot:

Kowalski76:

2.
