I know! Most of the other Scrooge's ended up with a lesson that was kind of, 'Okay ... I've learrrrned a lessonnnn ... Merry Christmas, Yawwwwwwwwwn ...' But Bill Murray gave us a whole epilogue on the meaning of Christmas!

After seeing Scrooged, the rest of the after-Ghosts Scrooge's were just a bunch of humbugs!

I voted for Sim too. I was first introduced to him through one of my absolute favorite movies, The Ruling Class. It lead me to see him in Scrooge.

I really need to check him out in more things. I just read this bit of trivia on IMDB and now I can toally see the resemblence:

Alastair's performance in London Belongs to Me (1948) so impressed Alec Guinness that he based his performance in The Ladykillers (1955) on it. So much so that Alastair is often thought to have done it.

Absolutely, The Ruling Class! One of my big faves, too. How could I forget Sim was in that?? I haven't seen London Belongs to Me -- that's now on my list. I loved Guinness in The Ladykillers...

Getting back to Scrooges for a min. -- although I love Bill Murray, I wasn't taken with Scrooged. Nor with his turn in The Razor's Edge. In some settings that flippant obnoxiousness doesn't work.

I accidentally linked the wrong version of London Belongs to Me. The one with Sim is actually listed as Dulcimer Street on Spout.

Of all the Ebenezer Scrooges I've seen over the years, Alastair Sim looked and sounded closest to the way I'd envisioned Scrooge in my head. His transformation performance is the best, too, I think. The most naturally convincing. Not too sudden or over the top. It's a fine line--easy to get the timing and intensity wrong.

Though a number of these Carol versions are good, I think my second favorite Scrooge is Mr. Magoo. :-) .

I actually have never seen all of Scrooged. But I didn't really think it was close enough to the original story as any of these plethora of other adaptations to include. Bill Murray's characters name isn't even Ebeneezer Scrooge is it?

Plus we already did a Bill Murray poll. ;)

Unfortunately I haven't seen a single one of those films. So my vote too is a write in for Bill Murray in Scrooged. LOVE that film.

I just like the way Michael Caine delivered the lines, maybe it's because I've seen his version so many times, now I can't watch anyone else play the part.

Micky's Christmas Carol was the first version of a Christmas Carol that I ever saw, so it'll always be me favorite :3
