I'm a fan of those cheesy monstrosities that cause a double take due to their insane look.

The least offensive of the bunch is the bright yellow VW Bus in Little Miss Sunshine which was a character in itself in the film.

The Mutt Cutts mobile in Dumb and Dumber was just pure insanity.

The Pussy Wagon in Kill Bill. 'Nuff said.

The Mirth Mobile in Wayne's World. Comes standard with flames and Twizzler dispenser.

The ECTO-1 in Ghostbusters.

Nice... I haven't seen it but I love the "rat rod" look. If I ever build a hotrod, its going to be finished in BBQ paint.

Nice! I <3 Top Gear. Just to make you a little jealous, I used to work for a Porsche dealership, and we got a few M5's in. Best day of my life was when a customer came in, bought the 6spd M5 we had on the lot, and then tossed me the keys to his S8L and asked me if I could drive fast, because I needed to keep up with him on the way back to his house. I don't think the needle dropped below triple digits for most of the way back. Oh and then the ride back to the dealership in the M5--wow.

Back to the subject at hand, the Bourne Identity has a good car chase in a Mini Cooper, but its a little laughable because its a Mini Cooper.

Yeah, I think that was literally the only memorable thing about that movie.

I will have to vote for "Vanishing Point" as the ultimate in this genre... That is due to the fact that I used to own a 1970 Dodge Challenger and I know how fast those things can go....

I'll register my love for the Mad Max movies. The first Mad Max is an odd duck. A little uneven, but riveting stuff. Mad Max 2, or The Road Warrior as it's known here in the states, is one of those odd sequels that at least rivals the original... perhaps even surpasses it (incidentally, I just got the Blu-Ray and the picture is gorgeous!) Of course, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is a distinct step down in quality, but I still have an affinity for it and some of it's more memorable creations (i.e. the titular Thunderdome and it's primary rule: "Two men enter, one man leaves." and of course, Master Blaster). I remember watching these movies as a youngin and being thrilled by the car chases. Low angles, cool cars and lots of revving. Awesome stuff.

Ha ha..!! I was actually planning on doing this very theme next, after falling in love with the '69 goat 'Judge' in Sex Drive.

I also love Christine, a '58 Plymouth Fury.

And don't forget, in Death Proof, the Challenger was actually a reference to another gear-head movie, Vanishing Point.

Despite the current economic crisis affecting the automotive industry, American's still find an inordinate amount of love for their cars. Nascar has been gaining popularity outside its traditionally localized fan base in the Bible Belt and every year a slew of action-packed, fuel-injected motorhead flicks have been racing into theaters trying to complete with the latest romantic comedy. This week we'll be talking about all those films glorifying speed, leather-trimmed interior and perfectly pin-striped paint jobs on those chemical spewing chromed bringers of early death: the car.

Going against the majority, I'm more than willing to expound on my affinity for the seizure inducing Speed Racer. It was F-Zero brought to the big screen and I couldn't keep my eyes off the candy-colored mess.

I get a good number of disturbed looks by those I recommend Crash to. It's the light-hearted story of a man that loves a woman, in a car, after an intentionally car accident. This is the film that cemented my love for David Cronenberg.

One half of Grindhouse, Death Proof was an exhilarating little adventure by Quentin Tarantino.

And who can forget the indelible car and song Grease Lightning from Grease.

So Ladies and Gentlemen, START YOUR ENGINES!
