Well, I suppose that just shows how desensitized I have become to nudity, granted those scenes were only a few seconds each. One being the scene between Jimmy Gator (the game show host) and his mistress / prostitute whatever and the other with his estranged daughter and a random guy / drug dealer. I believe the nudity was in the first one, but then again, I might be wrong.

And while we are on that subject, I was wondering if anyone remembers Brooke Shields' break out performance in 1978's Pretty Baby ? This was a major "mainstream" movie with a wide theatrical release back in the day. Brooke is the daughter of a prostitute (Susan Sarandon) who is raised in a turn-of-the-century New Orleans whore house. When she is twelve her virginity is auctioned off to the highest bidder and then she becomes the obsession of a photographer (Keith Carradine). The thing is this... 12 year old Brooke has more than a couple nude scenes in this movie! And we are talking full body, nothing left to the imagination nude scenes! My question is, what makes this movie NOT kiddie porn? Why isn't this illegal? Not that I'm complaining, mind you, I was just wondering how this one somehow 'slipped through the cracks', so to speak. And, oh yes, Sarandons breasts are prominently featured as well.

Sadly I'm drawing a bit of a blank on this one, but for some reason I want to say that the sex scene in Magnolia (the one with Tom Cruise who is the egomaniacal sex maniac) was probably one of those scenes. I can't really say it was erotic because it was fairly repulsive, but at the same time I think it helped me to understand Cruise's character in a way that I never would have otherwise.

Selma Hayek's naked in Desperado for an infuriatingly fragmented scene with what's his name...Banderas. It takes some strategic pausing for this one (Mercurial, that was perfect). Angelina Jolie also has the pleasure of having a similar scene with what's his name in Original Sin, a movie that is worth watching solely for that scene. AWESOME.

So are you saying you feel that Selma Hayek's beauty is a case for the existence of God? Fascinating.

I once tried to read a book by this guy named Neitsche or something, and he said a lot of things, but I remember he had some weird idea about the universe existing purely for aesthetic beauty. (or something like that, which I thought was interested, but I was doubtful I understood what he was writing)

Anyway, this particular weekly theme is a tad risque, but I won't shy away. As I get older I find most nudity in film to be sort of a fan service if you will. Unnecessary, but no one really minds. Yet I think there are some films that use the nude body, and in some cases sexual scenes to make an interesting point, or to convey a unique aspect about the world, or the characters in the film.
