I guess I see continually attaching yourself to a franchise as being more of a business move than an artistic move. I guess I'm assuming most trilogies are more of a franchise thing. I'm sure there are some that are more artistic, actually telling a bigger story or are just thematic or considered trilogies in other ways. But most are just to capitalize on certain well-known pop culture images.

Maybe it's a pretentious opinion. But by the time you've done at least two trilogies, that's a good chunk out of your carreer that's been stuck in the same worlds. Of course some of the actors named have only been in one of the installments of a trilogy. The actors that have been in all three movies of all the trilogies they've been in have invested a lot more time into these trilogies.

It all depends on the movies, I usually only loose respect for actors that have done one too many bad movies, no matter how talented they are. Sequels have traditionally been bad movies (more so in the past).

Another interesting thing is that I originally saw this as a trivia question on Premier magazine's website way back in 2000. And it only pertained to actors that have been in all 3 installments. Now if you think about the Harry Potter, Spiderman, LOTR, and all the other trilogies that have come about in the last 8-10 years, and exclude them, the list would be much shorter.

How many actors can you name that have been in more than one film series trilogy (or greater)? I'll give the first and most obvious one: Harrison Ford was in The Star Wars trilogy and Indiana Jones film series, now consisting of 4 films.

Of course there are the obvious ones like Mel Gibson (Lethal Weapon, Mad Max) and Sylvester Stallone (Rocky, Rambo)

But let's find the much more amusing ones like:

Judge Reinhold has been in the Santa Clause series, the Beverly Hills Cop series, the Beethoven series, and something I just discovered called the Crackerjack trilogy.

Christopher Lee - Lord of the Rings & Star Wars

I think he is going to be in all the Golden Compass movies too if they get made and he lives that long.

I'm bending the rules a bit to say Cate Blanchett -- in LOTR and an unfinished Kieslowski-penned trilogy, Hell / Purgatory / Heaven. (Only Heaven has been made so far, and K. didn't direct it.)
