ONCE!

Thank you filmspotting! Its not likely i wuld have seen this if not for you guys!

I loved this film so much! bang on 5 out of 5 for me!

the soundtrack was ace! as soon as the film finished i went to get hold of the soundtrack and swell season album! i can't get enough of his music!

I listen to it on my ipod all the time..

I can'thelp thinking i had heard the main song (falling) before seing the film though? maybe on the radio? or something similar.. I don't know

My fav scene was when they were in the piano shop having a jam.

I'm gonna have to watch it again!

I'm Black, my music taste goes from Rap/Hip Hop to R&B with some Jazz and the occaisional radio tuned mixed in. When I finished watching this film with my wife, I opened up my Laptop and searched for some of the songs on Itunes. Was it an advertisement for the Frames? Yes! Did the music enhance the movie experience? Yes! The music was intrinsic to the story and yet not the story. It helped to make this film one of the best of the year.

i think i might be the only person in the world who didn't care for this film. not that i thought it was particularly bad, just couldn't really care less. i think critics have failed to recognize that if the music isn't to your taste, there is little left for you. the directorial style is bland and the story isn't captivating. on top of not liking the music, i had trouble watching the performance of glen hansard. during the scene where we are constantly cutting between home videos of his ex, and shots of his completely overwrought tortured artist singing, i completely lost patience for the film. first i started to fast forward, but the song/scene went on for so long i eventually turned it off and went to bed early. went back a few days later to finish it, but couldn't keep myself from doing other things while i watched it, such as cleaning up my living room.

also can't help but view this as little more than an advertisement for two musicians who are now touring off the success of this film.

feel free to call me heartless...

"Little" and "potent" are the words I thought of for Once. I think it's because the musical numbers in the movie are not inserted for audience delight, but actually build character. I immediately bought the soundtrack and Glen Hansard's songs say so much in that movie about what's going on beneath the surface. I felt like it was the most believable musical ever.

Reviewing all the films I've seen so far this year, I'd say "Once" probably makes the top ten. It's a beautiful little film. And I'd also put it up for best soundtrack of the year, for sure. I've been a casual Frames fan for a while, so it was fun to see Glen Hansard doing what he does best...in a movie. I heard a recording of a concert he did with Marketa Irglova a few months ago. It was amazing and (to my glee) completely packed.

Once is my favorite movie of 2007 thus far, and the soundtrack is excellent. I noticed that it made the Top 20 last week and is getting a huge per-screen average. I'm definitely interested in hearing Sam and Adam's take on it next week.

I'm a huge fan of Glen Hansard (the star), and his band The Frames. If you like the music, Hansard made an album last year with his Once co-star, Marketa Irglova, called The Swell Season. It's exquisitely beautiful, and I recommend it to everyone. If you enjoy that, check out The Frames live album Set List, and their most recent album, The Cost. I'm going to see Once as soon as humanly possible. There's something so arresting about Glen Hansard. His charisma on the stage is amazing, but even on screen I can't take my eyes off him. I can't wait to hear Adam and Sam's opinion.

Just saw Once over here in San Diego.

Funny you should compare it to a Dogme film; perhaps Italian for Beginners with music now comes to mind.

The soundtrack was effective though; the theatre sold out here.

I don't remember if Adam and Sam covered this in their Sundance show, or even if this movie was at Sundance at all (I seem to remember it was), but this quite, affecting little Irish movie is far and away better than any of the crappy threequels infecting theaters right now. Clocking in at a refreshing hour and a half, this movie sneaks up on you as you watch it, telling a simple love story through a series of brilliant pop songs. Shot in a sparse, verite style, it feels very much like a Dogma film, without all the depressing, elitist politicising. It leaves you wanting more, rather than rolling your eyes. For anyone non-plused over what's out there right now.
