This anime series follows with an unhurried pace the story of Tsukasa, a boy who wakes up to find himself physically within the universe of the massive Internet game called "The World." The series is constructed to reflect Tsukasa's experience; in a dreamlike space, each episode uses misrepresented information and red herrings to offer the viewer the same confusion that Tsukasa undergoes. More than a cyber thriller, .hack//SIGN uses layers of allegory and narrative to guide the audience through a journey of emotional and spiritual questions.
